Cost of Operating Troy Light Plant Reveals Loss

The Call, from city clerk books, finds Troy spent 4174.87 to run the municipal electric plant in the year ending April 1915, with receipts of 9576.25 and a reported deficit of 533.20. City treasurer shows 3879.76 spent and 2980.24 received, creating a 939.52 discrepancy. The paper attributes variance to differing accounting and uncharged items, and argues the plant’s true cost and earnings warrant careful reconciliation. A contract with Southern Union Light & Power offers a minimum monthly cost of 165 based on current night-service output, suggesting a potential savings if adopted.
