Mrs Hughes and Mrs Lydia Hughes faced a Brown County jury verdict of guilty for murdering her husband with a recommendation of twenty years. The defendant has been adjudged insane and will be placed in the Jacksonville asylum, with the sentence deferred.
Gov. Deneen issues requisition for the extradition of Isaac Mintz from Missouri to Chicago to answer a charge of abandoning his wife Rebecca Mintz and their 18 month old son Sidney in June 1903. Mintz is held in St. Louis awaiting transfer.
John Gochenour, capitalist and real estate broker, died in Vandalia at age 70. He served as president of Vandalia Light and Fuel Co. and was land agent for Illinois Central Railroad Co. for 85 years.
Ambrose Edwards aged 95 died at his Newton home. He was married three times, his third wife surviving him, a niece of Gen Sterling Price the Civil War Confederate officer.
Horace farmer Elbert Wright wounded Peter Bassett after Bassett was accused of assaulting Wrights wife. Wright tied Bassett in a buggy and delivered him to the police, who report Bassett confessed to the assault.
Co. C. Green an Illinois Central fireman from Champaign was killed in the yards at Centralia after stepping in front of the fast mail train. He leaves a wife and two children.
An early morning blaze destroyed four residences in Monroe causing about 10000 dollars in losses. Ten days earlier a number of stores in the town were burned. Authorities suspect the fires were incendiary.
In Charleston Rev. Kemp of the First M E church joins B B. Shinn an 81 year old farmer and Mrs Elea Feagan a 63 year old widow in marriage. The ceremony reflects a modest village union amid local social circles.
Valentine Rapp, an elderly farmer living near Venice, chooses six months in jail instead of paying a $575 judgment. He asserts he cannot earn that much and would rather serve time and accept food and board from jail.
Burlington veteran O Montgomery Parker formerly of Quincy died at Quincy at age sixty nine after forty years as a master mechanic with the Burlington road. He long served the railway and resided in Quincy. The obituary notes a life of steady work and local service.

Miss Kate Herbert acquires the Arenzville Independent from former Postmaster Lightfoot and plans to operate it as an independent newspaper in the town.
