The Twentyeth Century Limited on the Lake Shore line crashed into an open switch at Mentor station at ten p.m. Wednesday. The baggage and smoking car and the following coach caught fire and burned. Dead include John R. Bennett and Thomas R. Morgan. Engineer Allen Tyler and baggage master ert Walters among the injured. Five bodies recovered burned beyond identification. missing barber and porter. Fire crews from Mentor and Painesville fought the blaze. Chicago sleeper derailed into the freight depot, which was destroyed.
