Old Troy Landmark to be Moved and Expanded on Market Street
The frame house occupied by Mrs. Mary Peters on Market Street will be relocated rather than demolished. Built in 1855 by shoemaker J. J. Brown, it is Troy’s third oldest structure with many owners and residents over the years. Contractor Stolte began moving it but the supports failed. Thomas Morton arrived from Edwardsville with workers and soon righted the building and moved it to a new site, where an addition will be erected changing its former footprint.
