Belleville man fined for driving horse under new auto law
John Polaskey of Belleville, without an automobile, was fined $10 by Justice Whagelin on a charge of violating the automobile law while driving a horse. This is the first use of the section in Belleville. The statute requires a horse-to-turn right when an automobile is behind. Al Maren reported seeing Polaskey’s buggy ahead on East B street and sounding his horn. Polaskey admitted zigzagging to block passage and pleaded guilty. He said he is prejudiced against automobiles and believes horse drawn vehicles deserve right of way.
