Death of Fred Sohler Prominent St. Jacob Citizen
Fred Sohler, 66, longtime St. Jacob leader and president of the State Bank of St. Jacob, died Monday at his sister’s home in St. Louis from uraemia. Born in Louisiana, he moved to Illinois as a boy, later ran a farm, then a mercantile and coal and grain business. He never married and is survived by one sister. Funeral held at his St. Jacob home, Keystone cemetery interment. He served on the village board and was highly regarded for conservatism and enterprise.

School Board Minutes Reflect Tax Levy and Hire in 1906
In Troy Illinois on July 6 and July 9 1906 the Board of Education met with President E S Donoho. They discussed census costs wage bills for Mamie Bryant and W H Donaldson and approved payments. A tax of 4400 was levied for school purposes in District No 63 Madison County for 1906 07 and 600 was levied for bond and interest. Pearl Courtney was hired as primary teacher at 45 dollars per month. The board adjourned after routine motions.
