Record of a Bad Year for Illinois Railroads
Springfield Illinois February 19 There was a great increase in casualties to passengers carried during 1905 by the railroads of Illinois according to the annual report of the state board of railroad and warehouse commissioners. During 1905 sixty six passengers were killed an increase of forty one over 1904 while two hundred ninety seven employees were killed. Seven hundred seven passengers were injured as compared with two hundred forty five in 1904 and three thousand two hundred seventy employees were injured. The total mileage of steam railroads in the state is eleven thousand three hundred sixty five miles not including four hundred fifteen miles of industrial tracks. Increase in main lines during 1905 is one hundred seven miles.
