Brick Yard Resumes Work Near Vandalia Depot
The Troy Press Brick Co. restarted operations at its plant east of the Vandalia depot after a winter shutdown. The firm reports a supply of dry clay to produce up to a million bricks and hopes for steady work if weather allows. In January thirty carloads were shipped, mainly to Crystal City Missouri for Pittsburg Glass Co. plants. Railroad workers note Troy has shipped more brick this winter than any other town on that line. Previous season’s low output stemmed from a lack of experienced machinists, one machine now runs at 25 000 bricks daily and more workers are sought for a possible record year.
