Former Troy boy Albert Pitkin head of Locomotive Co
Albert J. Pitkin, longtime head of the American Locomotive Company, died after a long illness. Born in Sumner, he rose from Troy roots to lead major rail equipment concerns and serve as elder in a Presbyterian church. He left two wives, four children, and a legacy of industry leadership and Christian faith.

The Vandalia Line now part of the Pennsylvania system faces slow progress on double tracking from Indianapolis to St Louis. A survey is done, but work likely postponed until next summer at earliest. Pennsylvania officials say doubling is needed to handle growing traffic.

Weather favors central farming but southern plowing hampered
November weather across the state shows central and northern districts with favorable farming conditions while southern counties face wet soils slowing plowing and husking.
