Man Found Mutilated on Vandalia Line at Union Station
The St Louis dispatches report a grisly discovery after Vandalia No 11 reached Union Station. A car inspector found an arm and hand wedged in the mail coach brake, later a full body remained found between Troy and Formosa. Identified as William Edward Knickerbocker, 25, of Urbana IL, who had been staying on Gustave Schmitt’s farm. An inquest found death by accident.

Brewery attaches saloon in Troy over 3600 debt
Representatives of the American Brewing Company attached V. F. Guinty’s saloon in the Rieder building in Troy to collect a 3600 debt. The move sparked local tension as questions arose about Squire Eckert’s authority and city marshal J S Jasin’s actions. A settlement followed when Guinty received 70 and the brewery took ownership of the place and lease, with Guinty returning to Collinaville and creditors left unsettled.

Rainfall was local and varied. northern and central districts saw heavy rains or showers while the south had light, scattered rain. Corn favors northern and central areas with southern reaching roasting maturity. some kernels fire where rain was scarce. Oats and wheat yields described as good with minor damage from floods and storms. Pastures improve with rain then thin. Potatoes uneven, grapes and melons promising. apples may be a light crop. Amanda M. Teter 72 died Monday at her sister’s home in St Louis after a pulmonary illness. She had lived in Troy previously and is survived by a son John L. Hagler and eight grandchildren. Funeral at Wagner home conducted by Rev Vandaveer with interment in Troy cemetery. A union prayer meeting at M B church next Wednesday aug 16 invites all, especially parents.

Funeral of Christian Kueker Sr. Held at St. Pauls Church
The funeral for Christian Kueker Sr aged German born citizen who died from a long illness was held Sunday at 1:30 from Christian Rucker Jr residence to St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran church. Rev Martin Daib conducted the service and interment followed in Lutheran cemetery. Survivors include sons Henry William Louis Ernest Christian of Troy and George Ferdinand of Ruma and a 54 year marriage to Louise Feddeler.
