Cincinnati report from Central City Kentucky describes a free for all at a railroad station Tuesday night where J D Wood a board of council member and former United Mine Workers official was killed instantly. John Wood his brother received two serious wounds while John H Magan a policeman was shot in the leg. Nearly 20 shots were fired by the Wood brothers James Jenkins Walter Hardwick and Magan in the politically charged melee.
Memphis Tennessee Homer L Higgs editor of the Greenfield Times was indicted by the Weakley county grand jury on arson charges. He allegedly paid domestic worker Fannie Jordan 75 to burn his house to claim 1400 in insurance. Higgs surrendered, posted bond, and his house and barn burned at separate times. Night Rider letters were shown. private detectives charged the servant who later appeared lucid during intervals and then claimed Higgs committed the crime.
Theodore Roosevelt Jr., eldest son of the president, joined a Signal Corps balloon flight in Washington. The No 10 craft, commanded by Capt. de Forest Chandler, carried four passengers including Capt. Fitzhugh Lee and Capt. Robert O. Vanhorn, aides to the president, for a trial ascension on Wednesday.

Jacob Ashoff, a Pennsylvania Railroad employee, shot his wife in Ballaire Ohio after returning from work Tuesday morning. He then killed himself with a gunshot to the head. The wife survived. The couple had been married less than a year.
