Taft Wins Kentucky Delegates and Missouri Roosevelt Gain

Reported returns from Kentucky Republican conventions show Taft winning ten of eleven district conventions and twenty four of Kentucky’s national delegates pledged to Taft with Roosevelt winning strong support in Missouri and Kansas. Roosevelt carried 13 Missouri counties and won Wyandotte in Kansas while Taft carried one Missouri county. A Japanese explanation of fishing rights in Mexico denies war plans and confirms private concessions by a Japanese company extending ten years along the Mexican coast.

Senator notes Japanese-led land deal in Baja California

A Senate Foreign Relations Committee member described a proposed purchase by a Japanese led group of about 4,000,000 acres held by the Charter Company of Lower California. The Japanese government showed no official involvement, but the land’s near-worthlessness and rapid pursuit by the syndicate sparked suspicion.

Farmer killed wife held after Clinton barn shooting

Samuel Hayes a farmer ten miles west of Clinton was shot dead in his barn after a quarrel with his wife. Mrs Hayes testified suicide but Hayes son claimed she retrieved a revolver. Coroner's jury found against Mrs Hayes who remains under arrest. Also notes a coroner inquiry into Mrs Fred Wheeler’s death and an extemporaneous oratory contest planned by the University of Illinois for a May interscholastic event.

Wife dies after Metropolis shooting by husband

Mrs. Mollie Uzzle died twenty four hours after being shot four times by her husband James Uzzle in Metropolis. Uzzle shot himself and probably will recover.
