Gavrilovich Sentenced to Death for Madison County Murder

Nikola Gavrilovich, a Servian twice convicted of murdering his wife in Madison on April 4, 1910, was condemned to death by Judge Bernreuter. The judge fixed Friday, April 24, for the execution after denying a motion for a new trial. Gavrilovich had two fair trials with the same verdict, first insanity then sound mind. A possible appeal or executive clemency from Governor Dunne was anticipated, but absent intervention, he faces execution in the Edwardsville jail yard.
