Wright City tragedy ends after gunfight near wheel crowd
George Ashlock and an accomplice, driving a wheellike gambling machine team called the wheel of fortune, argue with town officers in Wright City. Ashlock fires on constables, gets shot, and dies at a hotel after a daylong pursuit. Parke Kabbler shoots and wounds the wagon party, horse is shot, and a hand-to-hand chase ends with Ashlock mortally wounded. The incident prompts town rumors and follows a list of Troy Public and High School attendees from various distant locales.
