Mosby Payne duel attempt ends with arrest in Washington
The Warrenton clash of famed Confederate Col John Mosby and Capt O D Payne over a third term dispute escalated to a planned duel. Mosby was arrested in Washington, bonded for 5000 dollars not to fight in the district, and both sides prepared to meet near Luckland, Va. State law and local authorities intervened, delaying the confrontation.
