Fatal Affray at Cottleville reports four armed men hurt
Four men from St Peters and Battleville went to Cottleville to settle a grudge. After drinks at a saloon they opened fire on locals. A constable’s posse responded. Hyppolite Bernard was killed, Caspar Gaslain and John Bernard fled after being wounded, Jonathan Jones escaped. An inquest found justifiable homicide for Bernard’s death.

Troy Social Library annual meeting report 1874
At the January 6 1874 Troy Social Library meeting Librarian T D Fisher presents a report noting many books were lost or not returned, renumbering and removing damaged volumes, plus new volumes donated by the Ladies Social Library Club and Appleton’s American Cyclopaedia. The group approves the report and thanks Fisher and McK Fisher for reclaiming volumes.
