Despite inclement weather a solid audience gathered at the Methodist church for the installation of Troy Lodge No 31 A F and A M officers and Troy Chapter No 85 officers. Prof J P Blanton installed the Blue Lodge officers and Dr McElwee presented the Chapter officers with Wa Woolfolk furnishing the hospitality. A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs Woolfolk and church members for their kindness and help.
The annual meeting of Troy Social Library Association will be held in the court house on Monday evening January 7 1878 commencing at 7 30 promptly. Members are requested to attend. The communication of Common Sense was crowded out this week and will appear in the next issue. The Murphy movement has not commenced here.
Editor note describes a Friday evening social at Mr J M Mundys amid stormy weather. A party of youths faced nearly impassable roads, aided by Mr Hiram Motley lighting a lantern to ensure safe travel. The hosts provided a sumptuous reception for guests at the hospitable mansion. Dr T L Robinson and Henry Hlaverkemp departed for St Louis last Saturday.
An ad by M Starnens offers plain and steel horse shoes at one and two dollars with cash payment due upon completion. The notice is dated January 1 1878 and includes a New Year call for prompt settlement. C W Parker & Co also announces accounts ready for distribution and urges early payment.
Carwin & Co appeals to all debtors to call and settle accounts promptly to continue business. Notice dated January 1 1878. Also notes a grand Christmas Eve ball at the Ac ledge with Ilyde providing music for quadrilles and dances, the event drawing a large gathering and ending with New Year greetings.
