Donner Lake and Donner Party Touchstones in Rail Journey
In a rugged reminiscence from Corrinne to Truckee the author recounts meeting a boastful impostor at Ogden, viewing Nevada towns with warlike Indians near Carib and Reno, and detailing the Ma lden Grave near the railroad. Travel notes include irrigation schemes, a Nevada hotel garden with geese, the Sierra Nevada traverse, Donner Lake and the Donner Party tragedy, and a dramatic mountain road into Colfax with sheer chasms and Chinaman laborers.
