At a Silex gathering Elmer Winner of the University of Missouri said poultry owners can earn a premium by producing and marketing clean high quality eggs with little extra cost. Grade A eggs fetch higher premiums, especially from July to December, making summer a good time to start graded sales.
Lincoln County farmers face nitrogen shortages for corn and may use side dressing to offset limits. Moisture and depth affect effectiveness, with early season and deeper application favored. Grass silage plans rise as county growers follow Missouri lessons on wilting, packing, and storage. extension office can provide guidance.
R F Whiteside of Foley notes in his corn field that sprayed sections show much lighter weed infestation than unsprayed areas. County farmers report weed reductions lasting at least two years with proper spray use.
Lincoln County Extension Club Women will visit the State Capitol in Jefferson City on June 17. Mrs. Nestor Reichgert, committee chair, notes the trip will include the capitol building and other state government sites as part of their annual educational tours.
Over 500 boys and girls from St. Louis and St. Louis County toured area farms, meeting farmers and observing agricultural practices during a daylong program.
State Education Department officials George D. Engelhart and Arthur Summers toured Lincoln County District R II with local board leaders and issued May 19 1952 recommendations. They urged consolidating to up to three elementary centers, replacing Troy with a 12 room facility, expanding Moscow Mills to four rooms plus lunch and an auditorium, and selecting an architect to plan long term facilities.
Mrs W E Rohn of Troy spent days in Kansas City with her son in law Dr Ed Rooney and daughter Mrs Rooney and attended the Kansas City School of Osteopathy commencement. Dr Rooney was in the graduating class and will join his wife in Dayton Ohio for his internship after visiting his mother in law.
A three week series of tours toured Lincoln County farms to study balanced farming in practice. Visitors included Himmel at Moscow Mills Palmer Farms Ethlyn and Burkemper at Old Monroe with stops at other road points. Most groups were sponsored by schools and a Scouts and parents contingent joined one tour.
Miss Virginia Kathryn Foster of Bel-Nor will wed William H. Smith of Appleton, Wisconsin, in St. Louis on August 9. She works on the advertising staff of the DeKalb Daily Chronicle and is an alumna of Normandy High School and the University of Wisconsin School of Journalism. He is a Princeton Ill. native, WWII veteran, and NIU graduate.

A Monday afternoon tornado crossed the northern Warren County area near the Lincoln County line and moved south toward the Missouri river. Heavy rain hail and debris damaged crops and structures between Hawk Point and Warrenton. The Adkins home near Warrenton lost its roof and several trees blocked sheds. no injuries reported to Mr and Mrs Henry Adkins their two daughters and two workers.
Mrs Wm C Martin of Troy and her daughter Miss Betty Martin of Chicago IL travel to Evanston to attend the graduation exercises of the National College of Education. Their daughter Miss Mary Martin, a class member, will receive a B S degree in Education and has accepted a kindergarten instructor position in Evanston.
A correction notes the report overstated the number of families in need. The accurate figure is 224,000 families with income under 1000 dollars per year, not 24,000.
The letter recalls Erskin Hammond and family members including Will and Bill Willis, milk wagon memories, a rope ward house and barn, and Ed Eversmeyer visiting Troy. Lincoln County Youth Camp at Sherwood Forest concludes its 1952 session with 90 campers from Elsberry Winfield Silex Troy Moscow Mills and others plus a 25 member adult staff. The executive committee elected to plan 1953 includes Boots Nixon Vel Blank and Rev. Lehwald among others. A wedding notice follows the camp report detailing the Steppleman Muck marriage at Troy Methodist Church with attendees from multiple communities.
Valedictorian J. L. Raney son of Mrs. James Beddow and the late Earl Raney led Bowling Green High School’s 46 member graduating class. Born in Troy, he moved to Bowling Green with his mother years ago and received several awards at graduation.
Mrs. Minnie Schneider who had employed Mrs. Delia Schaper of St. Louis, formerly of Troy, died Monday June 2 in a St. Louis hospital where she had been a patient for five months. Funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon in St. Louis.
A neighbor recalls Jim Dudley and his brothers growing up around “our hill” and notes memories with the Dudley family. She mentions Anna who died in an accident with Kate Avery and Dr Walter Avery’s sister, reflecting on future chance to write more about the neighbors and wishing them well.
Elbert B. Hensley will be installed as pastor of Troy Christian Church on Sunday morning June 8 at 10 35. Lester B. Rickman state secretary will be the installing minister. A basket dinner follows at noon and a 2 30 dedication service for the remodeled sanctuary. Friends are invited to attend both services.
The June Troy Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Methodist Church basement drew good attendance. A. C. Shields led the session in Turnbull’s absence as plans for free 2nd and Mill Street parking were confirmed, and a new factory employing 100 plus workers was discussed with Troy as a potential site. Jay Gould presented the Goulds Million Dollar Circus plan for a free public show in Troy on July 14–15, with further details to follow.
Mrs. Garnett Chappel of Louisiana will install officers for the Troy Business and Professional Women's Club. The ceremony is at the June 5 meeting in the Pine Room of Dixie Haven Cafe, with dinner at 7 and the program to begin at 8. All members are urged to attend.
Miss Lucille Corless was guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower on Tuesday evening June 3 at the home of Mrs. John Muck Jr. in honor of her approaching marriage to Mr. Lavern Broyles. The home featured floral decorations and shower motifs. Miss Louise Clough led games while Mrs. J Ogden Scheer and Mrs. Curtis Poeppelmeyer served at the tea table. The prospective bride received many gifts.
