W E Ricks of Troy reported the second highest producing poultry flock in the state for March. His mixed hens laid 24.83 eggs per hen during the month. A University of Missouri bulletin offers guidance on controlling tomato diseases with a regular spray program and is available free from the county agent.
Mrs Raney reports heavy grasshopper presence in the garden east of Alexandria. Do not spray the garden. fence borders may be treated. If hoppers breed, use bait made from bran and a toxic insecticide, but it risks animal poisoning. Consult county agent for mixing instructions.
A corn demonstration at Ed Dunard’s farm near Troy used liquid nitrogen and 24D on corn about two inches high. Approximately 70 pounds of actual nitrogen and 1 percent 24D per acre were applied. The corn remained unharmed and weeds were eliminated.
Mrs Owen Whiteside and other leaders from New Hope Olney Sugar Grove Silex Moscow Mills Old Monroe attended the annual 4-H leaders conference at Sherwood Forest May 23 25. Thirty three county representatives discussed Boys and Girls Are Our Business with workshops on goals parliamentary procedure leadership and program planning. Mrs Paulsmeyer Lincoln County 4 H Council President reported the January Lincoln County king and queen crowning event.
Fourteen 4-H members from Lincoln County are chosen as delegates to State 4-H Club Week at the University of Missouri June 6 to 9. The program features council officer elections, picnics, Share-The-Fun acts and speakers including Dr. E Ellis and W Clark Ellyey. Joe Parrish will speak on "My Dad and I are Partners."
Brother Golden will fill his regular appointment at Briscoe Saturday with wife and four sons Busye L of Na carry in supper at 6 30 PM. Everyone welcome.
The Troy Garden Club held its annual spring flower show on May 26 in the Troy Methodist Church basement with many arrangements and blooms entered despite rain. Attendees enjoyed tea service as awards were given in multiple arrangement and horticultural classes with top honors noted for May-themed pieces and various roses, peonies, and bearded iris entries.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Mc Coy Funeral home for Mrs Idabel Granger of St Louis who died Saturday May 26 at the home of her daughter Mrs Guy Gibson in Troy where she had lived for several years. Rev N N Smelser conducted the services and the remains were cremated at Valhalla Cemetery. Mrs Granger was born August 8 1873 at Centralia Illinois and was 82 years 9 months and 18 days old.
The Executive Board of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital will meet in the hospital dining room on Monday June 4 at 1 30 p m CST. Members are reminded to pay dues if not yet paid and send them to the district secretary or to Mrs A H Williams Co Secy.

Newton N. Smelser Jr. of Troy will earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia during June 6 commencement. He plans to attend summer school at Missouri, specializing in Journalism.
Mr and Mrs Lyndell E Stapp of Hawk Point announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Sandra Lee to Louis Edward Cottle son of Mr and Mrs Wm A Cottle of Moscow Mills The wedding is set for Saturday evening June 9 at 6 00 o clock daylight saving time at the Methodist Church in Troy Friends are invited to the ceremony
In memory of Tony Baker who died May 28 1945. They say time heals all sorrow and helps us forget but time has only proved how much I miss you yet. Missed by his wife and family.
Edward Kenneth Dickmeyer and Robert Ernest Bell Jr both of Lincoln County were inducted into the army on May 22 and sent to Fort Leonard Wood for training.
Dr J E Schroeder will join the Missouri State Chiropractic convention in Columbia on Friday Saturday and Sunday. He will participate in sessions and network with chiropractors from across the state part of the event at the Columbia venue.
Mrs Roy Blair leads in Coral bells and Clematis with 1st and 2nd place finishes. Other winners include Mrs Hunt Garrett and Mrs Jos Dudley in various classes with chrysanthemums and flowering plants.
Elmer Ray Mankel of Mazon Illinois died May 27 in Joliet hospital after surgery for a school injury. Funeral services were held May 30 at Troy Bastiatch with Rev. Edward Fish officiating. Interment followed in Troy cemetery. He was born October 3 1940 at Marceline Missouri and was survived by his parents a sister and grandparents.
Mattingly Brothers Stores marks its 42nd anniversary with special sales across all communities served. The Lexington Missouri office lists Roy Mattingly as Chairman and Hugh Mattingly as President with A B Tarwater, James T Carrender, and Robert L Bell in key roles. The Troy store, opened in 1945 as Unit 26, is managed by Don Bryant.
Jim L Shields son of Arron and Ethel Shields of Troy received his AB cum laude from Central College Fayette in Sunday commencement exercises. He majors in Chemistry and Biology and will enter the University of Chicago School of Medicine this fall. His parents attended both the baccalaureate service Sunday morning and the commencement later that day.
The Troy Chamber of Commerce will meet Monday evening June 4 at the Presbyterian church. Dinner will be served by the ladies at 6 45. members are urged to attend and make reservations early as a good program is planned.
Chantilly 4-H Club entertained 6th and 7th graders and teachers from Meramac School Saint Louis Wednesday evening at Sherwood Forest from 7 30 to 9 00. Jack Bernard assistant county agent introduced the club and explained project beginnings.
A Democratic rally for Congressman Clarence Cannon will be held in Mexico Missouri on Friday June 8 hosted by the Audrain County Democratic Club. Attendees from the Ninth District are invited with 10:30 AM registration at Presser Hall and a noon luncheon in Richardson Hall. John M Dalton will speak in the morning, with afternoon addresses by Senator Stuart Symington and Cannon. An engraved plaque will be given to Cannon and a 2:45 PM tribute period follows for attendees to pay respects.
Governor Phil M. Donnelly and national leaders endorse the Slow Down and Live traffic safety drive from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Missouri reports a 25 percent rise in deaths year to date and urges drivers to take responsibility while law enforcement tightens enforcement statewide under Col. Hugh H. Waggoner as coordinator.
Rev. B B Harvey former Troy Methodist pastor died Thursday May 24 in Ballwin while serving Salem Methodist Church. He was a 45 year Methodist minister and will lie in state May 28 at 10 00 am with graveside services at 2 00 pm at Ham Prairie near Fulton. He leaves his wife four sons Busye L Na pa Idaho W Dexter John R both of Independence Mo Charles R Harvey of Kansas City five grandchildren two brothers and two sisters.
The Planned Progress Council of Troy met Thursday evening May 24 in a postponed meeting from May 19. Chairman Al Erdsiek led the business session with committee reports and discussion of proposed projects. The meeting adjourned at 8 30.
Buchanan High School athletic director Jack Walz will supervise summer youth sports at Fair Grounds Park Troy and School House Moscow Mills from June 4 through July 29. Equipment is provided by local groups with schedules for 7–8, 9–13, and 13–18 year olds, with rain sites in Bonnifhs Auditorium and Moscow multi purpose room.
Mrs. Bob Penn, a counselor at the Lincoln County Youth Camp near Bolia, slipped on an incline at Sherwood Forest Curvie River State Park Monday night and broke her hip. She was admitted to Lincoln County Memorial Hospital and moved by ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis for specialist care.
The Lincoln County Women’s Democratic Club gathered Friday evening May 25 at the Elsberry school auditorium with about 80 attendees. Guests included members from the Young Democratic Club Mrs. Edward Long Bowling Green Mr. and Mrs. Larney Barnes Mexico and Mrs. Elsie Belle McDaniel St. Louis. President Miss Georgia Huckstep led a covered dish supper and business session. Omer H. Avery and County candidates were presented before Hon. D. E. Williams spoke on current issues and presidents’ history. A rally with state candidates is planned for Troy on June 22.
Nine members of the Troy Chamber of Commerce spent a Wednesday in New Haven Missouri touring completed and ongoing projects. They visited a newly dedicated factory, new school buildings, and other civic improvements, and were entertained at dinner before returning home.
