Fund drive chairman W A Kuker urged residents to plan contributions to the Tripoli Community Chest. The annual drive begins Oct 1 with a Sept 29 kickoff for workers. Nine agencies share the proceeds. the budget is 2595 dollars, up 65 from last year.
Bremer county residents are reminded that last half property taxes are due and payable by September 30. All county taxes can be paid in Tripoli at American Savings Bank, which maintains a complete tax listing to save residents a trip to Waverly.
Dr W G Goebel of Tripoli is among 12 practicing dentists attending a five day postgraduate course in dentistry for children at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City. Topics include overcoming childhood fears of dental visits and new techniques for treating young patients, with sessions at the Town Center for Continuation Study and clinical application in the Children's Clinic. The course is sponsored by the university college of dentistry in cooperation with the Iowa State Department of Health.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Wilharm announce the engagement of Karla to Larry Priebe United States Army son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Priebe Bettendorf The wedding is set for Oct 9 The couple attended the University of Iowa Priebe is stationed at Fort Carson Colorado
Funeral services for Glen M. Parker 77 of Waterloo and Raymond were held at the Methodist church in Raymond. The Rev. Keith Hauser officiated and burial was in Poyner cemetery. Parker died Saturday at his home after a stroke and long illness. He was born Sept 14 1878 in Lodi Ohio and married Helen Bandfield in 1902. He later married Myrtle Cotton and lived on a farm near Raymond before retiring to Waterloo. He was an agent for State Farm Insurance and is survived by his second wife two sons and five daughters. He also leaves a sister three brothers 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
The 1956 Ford car and truck lineup debuts at Wm Ambrose Auto Co showrooms starting Friday morning. The event runs Friday and Saturday with free coffee and doughnuts and door prize drawings at closing. New safety features highlighted. attendees urged from Tripoli and nearby areas to visit.
Regular town elections are on Tuesday Nov 8. Town clerk Pearl L Buechele announces final day to file for mayor, town council, or treasurer is Tuesday Oct 11. Persons may obtain nomination papers and information from Mrs Benechele.
The 75th anniversary service at St Peters Evangelical and Reformed Church will feature Rev James E Wagner D D LL D as principal speaker on Oct 16. He is president of the Evangelical and Reformed Church elected June 19, 1953 for a six year term after pastorships in Harrisburg and Lancaster.
Tripoli Commercial club met at Town hall with 30 members and guests. Joyce Rice of Greenfield performed baton twirling. Dr. L J Magnall updated on the citizens' school reorganization committee. W A Buckley outlined a future promotion and noted a $200 plus loss from Harvest Festival. A committee was formed to study the promotion. Teachers Night will be a separate event with a dinner date to be announced.
Bremer County Tuberculosis and Health association will sponsor a county wide miniature X ray program for all school personnel including teachers principals custodians bus drivers nurses cooks and students helping with hot lunch. A few minute exam requires no disrobing and results are mailed.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth J Pierce of Waterloo moved to Iowa City on Friday. Pierce, who had attended Iowa State Teachers college Cedar Falls for two years, entered the University while Mrs Pierce transferred from Waterloo Northwestern Bell office to the Iowa City office.
Tripoli Hardware will begin its annual Fall and Anniversary Sale this week starting Friday and running through Saturday November 5. Owner Les Lauck says over 100 dollars in free prizes will be awarded at the end of the event, with more merchandise prizes during the sale and hundreds of discounted items featured in the week’s ad.
Periods of warm fall weather favored Tripoli and surrounding areas with temperatures up to the upper 90s and nightly lows around 50. Crops near final harvest show no frost yet, while locals fear a long cold winter as old timers recall similar patterns to 1936.
St. John's Evangelical and Re formed church in Siegel will host a chicken and ham supper on Thursday evening September 29 starting at 5 30. Menu includes chicken or ham mashed potatoes corn sauerkraut salad cherry or apple pie rolls and coffee. Adults 1.00 children 50c.
Mr and Mrs Walter Beisner attended the funeral of E R Williams held in Des Moines on Thursday.
The Tripoli school district reorganization moves toward a vote. A citizens committee and attorney will meet at the high school to set boundary lines. If approved, petitions for an election will be circulated to electors in affected districts.
VFW Auxiliary met Tuesday evening at the VFW home with host Al ma Crittenden. Six reports were presented by Ruth Fink, Heraldean Niemeyer, Clara Towne, Marlys Ryan, Donna Sassmann, and others. A $5 donation was approved for the Iowa Cottage Children's Christmas fund at Eaton Rapids Michigan. Phyllis Eichmann reported on the third district meeting at Clear Lake on September 11.

Herman C Bolte 66 died Thursday in Rochester Minnesota after a fishing trip and illness. Last rites were conducted Monday at Rettig Funeral Home and St Peters Evangelical church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with six casket bearers. He formerly farmed in Black Hawk county and moved to Tripoli 15 years ago working various jobs. Survived by wife six children and several grandchildren.
Readlyn Savings bank led by Aug F Meyerhoff as president and Burton C Stumme as cashier shows assets of 1 073 291 70 with 556 154 81 in demand deposits and 264 688 in time deposits. Farmers Savings bank of Frederika reports 495 438 71 in assets with 147 547 89 in demand deposits and 228 427 62 in time deposits. Capital and surplus totals are 50 000 for Readlyn and 45 000 for Frederika plus profits of 66 766 37 and 5 218 65 respectively.
Wapsie Sportsmen's Club will sponsor its annual Farmer's Night at the Town hall next Tuesday at 8. Members are urged to bring at least one nonmember farmer. Dick Nomsen of Hampton, a pheasant biologist for the Iowa Conservation Commission, will discuss habitat and cover for Iowa game populations.
Tripoli travels to Calmar aiming to end a two game skid after a loss to Nashua. Calmar enters 0-2 after defeats by Clermont Elgin and Arlington. Last season Tripoli and Calmar tied 19-19. Calmar brings ten returning lettermen and may run the split T. Injuries cloud Tripoli, with coach John Mullen promising changes.
A plowing demonstration of the new International Harvester tractors will be held Friday September 30 on the Lavern Schmidt farm one mile west of Tripoli on Highway 93. Sponsored by Tripoli Implement Co the event starts at 1 p m Harold Miller announced. Tractors to be demonstrated include the Farmall 300 400 200 and 1 300. Public is invited to attend.
Mrs. R E Yarrington reports a change of address to The Leader in Denver Colorado. She notes enjoying weekly delivery and mentions warm daytime weather cooling at night, contrasting with Iowa climate. New address is 377 South Quitman Street Denver Colorado 19.
Mrs. Stanley Smith, formerly of Tripoli and now residing in Osage, suffered a broken arm after falling over her grandson’s tricycle. She once lived here with her late husband when he owned the business now known as the Hasbrouck-Voetmann Lumber Yard.
