The Student Council approved a change to eligibility rules lowering the required grade from 2.0 to passing in four subjects of the previous semester. The amendment passed 185 to 46 with class breakdowns: Freshmen 54 5, Sophomores 65 3, Juniors 27 23 1, Seniors 39 15. A single ballot was spoiled.
The journalism staff asks seniors to notify when they have received their portraits. They will arrange a time for a personal interview as part of the column.
A local production of the Broadway musical Once Upon A Mattress features cast members Minstrel Allan Mohling Princess Ann Fink Wizard Neal Boldt and more. The show runs November 3 and 4 at the Tripoli High School gym inviting families and friends to attend.
Mr Hostetter spoke to Tripoli High classes on September 7 and 8 about the dangers of smoking using a neck tube and breathing hole from a larynx cancer operation. He began smoking at 17, smoked 33 years, and now lives in Des Moines with a non smoking wife and family.
Brenda Frahm, born Jan 15 1955, is active at THS in general business office practice government and home economics III. She plays clarinet, works with 4H as treasurer, and may be found at Tastee Creme or her parents home. Deborah Buzzard, born June 11 1955, participates in Girls Glee Mixed Chorus softball FTA and track and plans college in Colorado after graduation.
Mr Traetow, new business law and general business teacher, has joined THS. He came from Waverly-Shell Rock High School and earned his B A at MNI. He enjoys THS personal friendliness and plans a courtroom style project for students.

Tri County School System announces a convention in Hampton on September 25 with delegates from seventeen districts in Franklin Butler and Bremer counties. Readied student panels from Tripoli will present on English Science Physical Education and Industrial Education with 5 to 6 minute talks from Shannon Finney Debi Hodges Ann Fink and Danny Buls.
Tripoli High announces five Saturday ACT dates for 1972 73 with Oct 21 first test. Registration deadlines run up to Oct 2 for Oct 21. Guidance Counselor Duane Ahrens provides the full schedule and cost six fifty.
Lauri Wood recalls that seventh grade is harder than sixth, with stricter teachers and the sense of starting over after leaving grade school. The setup at A SET UP School feels easy now but Sharon warns of upcoming difficulty.
The ACT is a five part test taken by millions for college admission. It includes four academic tests English usage math social studies and natural sciences plus a questionnaire on achievements plans and career goals. Mr Ahrens recommends completing the questionnaire in junior or early senior year to aid college planning. ACT is an independent non profit with headquarters in Iowa City guiding students and institutions in the U S and over 60 foreign countries.
Mobile Glaucoma Testing Unit offers free eye examinations for residents over forty at the Denver Public Library September 21 and 22 with testing hours 9 am to 12 and 1 pm to 5 pm. The unit is sponsored by the Iowa Lions Light Conservation Foundation and University of Iowa Ophthalmology. Lions Club members assist. Appointments: call 984 5360.
