Efficient use of frost damaged corn for silage
The engineer notes frost damaged corn yields 23 to 28 percent ear corn and 25 to 30 percent shelled corn. Whole plant silage preserves immature corn well, with moisture around 65 to 70 percent after frost. Silage stores successfully in tight silos or compacted stacks, though frost damaged corn has lower test weight, crude protein and total energy than mature corn.
