Work at Via ple Hills Golf site moves toward finish as rock clearing nears completion with farmer volunteers, endloaders, and donated Bantam and backhoes aiding progress. Operators Mar win Blasberg Eldon Westendorf and L. L. Moeller aided the effort while golfers form greens and tee blocks.
Iowa Jaycees designate September 28 as Honey Sunday with Tri Poli Jaycees cooperating. Richard Meyer says honey will be sold for 1.00 per jar statewide to raise funds for mental retardation in Iowa, with about 10 000 Jaycees statewide participating.
H. J. Frese came home Sunday from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after a stay there.
A project update notes the 12 foot wide spring tooth roller and drag cone unit set for completion by Wednesday. The clubhouse has staking in place with no digging yet. L L Moellle has been detailed on sewage field construction for the past two weeks.

W H Heffernan was chosen as board president at the Tripoli Community School District re organizing meeting held Monday evening. Wm Burrow was elected vice president and other members Lloyd Moeller Keniston Hoppenworth and Duane Holm were named to the board. Hoppenworth and Holm are new members sworn in earlier last week.
First showing of the 1970 Ford lineup is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in the Ambrose Auto Company showrooms. The general public is invited to view the full 1970 models with free coffee and doughnuts available all day Saturday.
The Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examining team is scheduled for Saturday morning September 20 between 8 a.m. and noon Renewals will be issued until noon but written and driving tests will be given until 11 a.m. only.
The Brandenburg-Krueger Auxiliary and volunteers will sell buddy poppies in the Tripoli and Frederika areas this Saturday September 20. Proceeds support the VFW National Home at Eaton Rapids Michigan and its hospital rehabilitation and service work.
Ernest H Stehn 78 died suddenly at his Waverly home Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday at St Pauls Lutheran Church Waverly with burial in Harlington Cemetery. He was born Feb 25 1891 in Waverly and worked for Interstate Power Co retiring as Tripoli IPC manager in 1959. He moved to Waverly after retirement and was a church and bank board member. Surviving are nieces and nephews. preceded by his parents and two sisters.
Siegel will host a steak supper on Thursday September 25 from 4 30 p m until served. Menu includes steak mashed potatoes gravy sauerkraut corn jello salad rolls pie and coffee and milk. Adults 1 50 children under 12 75c.
An open house at Buhr Chevrolet showcases the 1970 Chevrolet lineup including the new Monte Carlo. Attendees can view full size Chevrolet Chevelle Chevy II Corvair Corvette Camaro and more. Free coffee and doughnuts will be served Saturday. Also on display are the 1970 Buick lineups.
The Tripoli Panthers improve to 5 wins 2 losses and 2-2 in conference play after a week of games. Winning pitchers include Colleen Marquardt Glenda Matthias Sue Herman and Heather Matthias with varied scores in matchups against Dunkerton Wapsie Valley New Hampton and Denver. The Iowa sectional tourney grants Tripoli and Fredericksburg first round byes with Readlyn hosting first round action September 22 23 and 24 culminating in the championship.
The Hunger Hike in northeast Iowa drew 138 hikers from Fayette Tripoli Sumner Oelwein Hazelton and Waterloo. Forty eight completed the 27 12 mile wheel route and participants aged four to 75 collected sponsors for every mile walked. Estimated earnings range from 1800 to 2000 and proceeds go to CROP Projects for the Needy in Iowa and American Freedom from Hunger Foundation.
Danny Jahnke of Iowa City and his mother Mrs. Anita Jahnke of Tri poli, along with Mrs. Ralph Cook and Mrs. Hazel Morris of Waverly, were hospitalized in Montana after a one car accident Tuesday morning when their vehicle struck a bobcat. The car was a total loss. Danny has a broken neck and his mother suffered cuts and bruises.

Maynard plans a September 21 dedication of its new Lutheran church and parsonage built after the 1968 May tornado. The 10:00 am service will feature Dr. Alvon Nelson of the Iowa District ALC as sermon speaker, followed by a 2:30 pm thanksgiving service with Pastor Paul Schaedig of Readlyn as chief speaker.
Dr Weeber will be in Rochester Thursday and Friday September 18 and 19 to participate in a postgraduate course on circulatory diseases.
The Tripoli Jaycees schedule their first trap shoot of the season for Sunday September 21 at 1 30 p m starting 1 mile east of Tripoli. The event invites local shooters to compete and kick off the season.

Tripoli Woman's Club hosts Judge William Parker as guest speaker at the Tripoli town hall tonight at 7 30 p m. Parker the municipal judge at Waterloo will discuss Is There a Generation Gap. Tripoli High School seniors and their parents are honored guests for the event.
Sumner Aces dominated Tripoli with 314 rushing yards and two blocked punts leading to touchdowns. Tripoli showed a strong pass defense but could not move the ball offensively as Hildebrandt connected with six receivers on 19 attempts. Coach Walsh vows to sharpen timing and offense to relieve the defense.
