Readlyn city council opened bids for a street improvement project on Malone Avenue Stumme Street and West Ridge Street. Flynn Company of Iowa submitted the apparent low bid of 162 438 30, about 74 50 percent below the engineer’s estimate.
Regular dinner meeting of Tripoli Commercial Club members set for Monday September 20 at city hall. Dinner served at 7 00 pm by Grace Lutheran Church ladies. Attendance committee to contact members for reservations.
Enrollment at Denver High School reaches 1010 for the year, up from 1975 76. Officials note sixty one graduates left, seventy seven new kindergartners entered, with continued growth expected due to the John Deere Building program.
Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examining team will be at Tripoli city hall on Saturday September 18 from 8 40 a m to 11 45 a m for renewals. Tests end earlier at 11 15 a m. Examiners return October 16. Six new teachers join local schools including Carol Franzen Mary Traetow David Kubalsky Vernon Jensen Daryl Benke Shaui Cornish Debra Kuhlman and Annette McLaughlin. Flu vaccine for Bremer County expected late Nov to early Dec with public clinics announced. Jane Garner enrolled at University of Iowa as a junior after working as a teller this summer. Bremer County residents are invited to a pressure screening clinic at City Hall on September 21 from 11:00 a.m. The event, supervised by Marie Zelle, Bremer County Public Health Nurse, will be staffed by volunteer RNs and aims to detect high blood pressure and prevent serious conditions.

July bond sales in Bremer county reach $55,180 in series E and H, totaling $391,754 for 1976 to date, 57 percent of the county goal. Iowa seven month sales total $65,164,403, up $4,309,110 from 1975, with statewide July sales at $8,771,235 and other counties reporting varied progress. Mrs. Viola Zabel returns home from Waverly hospital after observation.
Local representatives of the Bureau of the Census will conduct a survey in this area during the week of September 20 27 to determine the extent people have been immunized against selected diseases. Rex L. Pullin announced in Kansas City. The survey covers measles influenza polio diphtheria whooping cough tetanus rubella and mumps. Interviews will visit households including Charlotte Westpfahl. Personal data stay confidential by law.
The 1974 Census of Agriculture reports Bremer County farms sold products totaling 51.297 million dollars from 1 462 farms. The preliminary figures come from the Bureau of the Census and reflect farms qualifying under the census definition.
The 65th anniversary definition for farms under the census year limits a farm to operations under one management with sales thresholds of 250 dollars for under ten acres or 50 dollars for ten acres or more. In 1974 and 1969 farms with sales of 2,500 dollars or more totaled 1,282 and 1,341 respectively, accounting for 51,088,000 and 26,891,000 dollars in sales. The average farm size rose from 187 to 190 acres, and value per acre climbed from 413 to 764 dollars, lifting average value per farm from 77,224 to 144,881 dollars. Livestock and their products on large farms totaled 24,703,000 dollars, poultry 2,532,000 dollars, and crop sales 23,854,000 dollars. Smaller farms under 1,000 dollars in sales numbered 37 in 1974, totaling 14,000 dollars in sales.

Tripoli voters turnout high with 407 ballots at City Hall as the measure to rename Tripoli Community School District to Tripoli FREDERICKA moved to a public vote. It failed 259 No to 149 Yes with 19 write ins and 27 unmarked ballots.

Bremer County selects trial jurors for the fourth calendar quarter of 1976 with summonses for report on Friday October 1 at 10:00 a.m. to impanel seven jurors. The list names jurors by town including Sumner Readlyn Fairbank Tripoli Frederika Plainfield Denver Shell Rock and multiple jurors in Waverly.
