Annual taxable sales in Bremer County for the year ended June 30, 1976 reached 60 683 102 dollars, up 2 848 090 or just under five percent from the prior year. Hawkeye Valley Agency names county outreach leaders
The Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging announces a one year County Outreach project across ten counties. Eight area leaders were appointed this week under Executive Director Chris Harshbarger to work with County Councils on Aging. Bremer county representative is Ray Fairholm and Chickasaw county representative is Lillian Hygtved. They will raise awareness of programs and serve as links to Senior Information Service volunteers.

Drop in GI home loan rate to eight percent saves veterans
The Veterans Administration announced a cut in the GI loan rate from 8.5 percent to 8 percent. A 30 year, $30 000 loan would lower monthly payments about 10.50 and save nearly 3800 over the loan. The change does not affect existing loans and VA guarantees loans. In fiscal 1976 VA guarantees reached almost 10 billion dollars in home loans, a historic high. Since 1944 about 9.5 million veterans have obtained 129 billion in loans under the VA guarantee program.
