Feeder cattle price trends and youth driver stats noted
Prices from March to mid April sit $3.50 above December and $4 to $5 above 1965 mid April levels. Calves outpaced feeders in price gains while spring weakness in cattle prices is foreseen. Demand for feeders remains strong with summer and fall prices likely above year earlier. 1966 calf crop expected smaller and more heifers kept for breeding, signaling tighter supplies. Canadian and Mexican feeder imports may stay high. Meanwhile drivers under 25 make up 18 percent of licensed, yet caused over 30 percent of fatal crashes in 1965 and 28 percent of nonfatal highway mishaps.
