New Republicans Mapping Plans for State Elections
Iowa Republicans elect L. L. Jurgemeyer as state chairman and outline an aggressive 1958 plan. Don Pierson resigns as chair but stays on central committee. Arthur Donhowe was the runner up. Reports say George Nagle may resign to focus on business. The piece also notes a celebrated lobbyist Cliff Staples who helped repeal a 1897 pool hall law, and a large Ida Grove event with four Midwest governors. It contrasts Democratic views of the 57th General Assembly with GOP claims of constructive legislation on schools and roads.
