Bremer County Extension reports an overall year of growth with 151 new 4 H members bringing total enrollment to 619, an increase of 16 from last year. The year featured a public affairs program, environmental forum, and a large Annual Hobby Fair drawing over 1400 attendees.
The Tripoli Town swimming program, sponsored by the Town and Tripoli School District, invites children to sign up on Saturday May 15 at Averty. A per child registration fee covers the entire cost with no extra charge at swim time. Buses will depart from the grade school at 8 30 and children should bring the registration blank and be ready for a swim test to determine placement.
Funeral services for Art Brockmeyer 73 of Inglewood California will be held Saturday at 1 30 p m at Zion Lutheran Church West Union with burial there He died of a heart attack in California while homes there 15 years Surviving wife ZU Laie Mrs Neil Ektee Calmar one son Duane Brockmeyer Calmar four grandchildren two brothers Willie Brockmeyer Oelwein Richard Brockmeyer St Paul and two sisters Mrs Otto Biermann West Union Mrs Ruloff Wedeking Tripoli
Dora Bock, previously hospitalized at Mercy hospital in Wav evily, was moved Wednesday to the extended care unit at Allen hospital in Waterloo.
Mrs. Arthur Bunger was admitted to Mercy hospital in Waverly on Monday morning for treatment.
Special from Denver reports funeral services for Henry Lau 67 of Readlyn were held May 1 at Zion Lutheran Church Readlyn with burial in the church cemetery. Lau a retired farmer died Wednesday morning at his Readlyn home of an apparent heart attack. Born September 9 1903 in Bremer County he was the son of H J and Louisa Harris Lau. He married Leona Blasberg April 29 1928 at St John’s Maxfield Lutheran Church. Survivors include his widow one son Roland four daughters Meryl Verdine Kaeding Raymond Meyer Wendell Lois Meyer and Carol a student at Iowa City one sister Louise Matthiesen and sixteen grandchildren.

Tripoli Community School's music department presents its annual Spring Concert on Monday May 10 at 8 00 p m in the high school gymnasium The elementary junior high and senior high bands make up the instrumental program Vocal groups include the high school mixed chorus girls glee boys glee and junior high chorus Boys and girls glee clubs perform pieces that earned division I at the large group contest Earle Dickinson leads instrumental work and Dennis Kuyper directs vocal groups Public is invited with no admission charged.
The Young Homemakers gather at 1 30 PM on Wednesday May 12 in the town hall. Mrs Eugene Eick is guest demonstrating tie dye. Made leine Ambrose makes nut cups for the Nursing Home and Jana McLavey hosts. Babysitter will be provided.
Paul Zander of Tripoli, son of Mr and Mrs Arnold Zander, earned a major letter in wrestling at the University of Iowa Iowa City. He is a junior at the university.
Brandenburg Krueger Auxiliary will meet Monday evening May 10 at the post home after the High School music program. New officers will be installed and all officers must attend. Verlee Gronemeyer will be hostess.
The Jaycees schedule a meeting for Wednesday evening May 12 at 7 30 at the VFW home. All members are urged to attend for the election of officers.
Richard J. Schneer from Tripoli and Margaret Wells of Sumner are among 50 Iowa high school seniors awarded Alumni Merit Scholarships at the University of Northern Iowa for 1971 72. Recipients are in the top five percent of their class and scored in the upper five percent of UNI ACT norms.
Residents in Tripoli Frederica and Plainfield will receive new telephone books later this week. Wayne Miller Butler Bremer Mutual Telephone Company manager says subscribers will get the books by mail on Friday or Saturday.
Ruben Drape was discharged Sunday and returned home after a stay at Mercy Hospital in Waverly.
Bremer County Highway Department awards to Westendorf Construction of Waverly the 87 by 30 foot concrete slab bridge project located 144 miles west of Bremer. Low bid 34 411 44. unsuccessful bids listed from Winnebago Construction Mason City 34 465 09 Kehe Construction Waverly 35 484 09 and Taylor Isenhauser Hudson 36 321 27.
Mrs. Lawrence Valeria Schwartz of Tripoli was honored as Homemaker of the Year at Bremer County Extension Coffee in Tripoli town hall on May 4. She active in Farm Bureau and extension work and chaired home economics programs and Young Homemaker groups in Tripoli Readlyn Denver and Waverly.
Tripoli Panthers defended their conference title at Wartburg College with nine meet records set, edging Denver 77 percent of points. Star performers included Willis Hildebrandt with multiple wins and Gaylen Drape anchoring the Medley Relay to a record, as coach Gene Perkins praised the standout showings.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet Tuesday evening May 11 at 7 30 p m at the Town Hall. Memorial Day plans will be made and roll call will be a spring flower. Hostesses are Elizabeth Buhr Nora Peacock and Pearl Buechele.
Iowa unemployment insurance paid 5 416 242 to 101 960 weeks in March with 528 282 to ex servicemen and 22 592 to former federal employees. Linn County led state disbursements at 486 360 38 for 8729 weeks, Polk 383 975 25 for 7203 weeks, Black Hawk 362 007 93 for 6870 weeks. Iowa consider extended 13 week unemployment benefits if federal law changes take effect in 1972.
Tripoli High School boys beat South Winneshiek 169 179 on Monday at home with Kim Kehe as medalist at 37. Tripoli girls lost 231 219. Earlier Tripoli boys won 182 192 at Jesup with Gary Krumm scoring 43. May 7 8 schedule notes for girls and boys sectional tournaments at Oelwein Rockford.
Eligible attendees may still purchase tickets from Jim Nuss Liz Klein Gladys Rettig Connie's Tap Readlyn or the Tripoli Bowl. A few tickets remain until Thursday evening. Banquet is Friday at the Waverly Golf and Country Club with dinner at 7 p.m.
THS girls track team won a triangular meet at Fredericksburg on April 29 with 75 points. They had seven firsts seven seconds and three thirds led by Judy Schuldt in the 100 yard dash and the 880 relay team of Ann Fink Kay Rathbone Sue Platte.
