The town clerk reports partial receipt of federal grant monies totaling 419,738 for the disposal plant. A remaining 10 percent balance will be released after final auditor inspection confirms all bills paid. Total grant amounts to 20,820 and final disposal plant cost is computed at 84,000.
Arthur E. Magee died in Waterloo on March 25 from a heart attack. Funeral at Emerson Funeral Home Hawkeye with Rev. Patrick Flaherty officiating. Burial at Hawkeye. Casket bearers listed. Survived by widow Etta Peverill and two sisters Amy Miller and Alice Fry plus a nephew and niece. Born February 3, 1902 in Black Hawk county. Lived on Hawkeye farm, moved to a farm north of Tripoli in 1951. Retired December 1961 after auctioning farming equipment.
Funeral services for Herman William Bockhaus a former Tripoli banker were held in Cedar Rapids at Turner chapel. He died in a Cedar Rapids hospital aged 78 after a long Cedar Rapids residence and a career at Corn King Co. He was a member of several organizations and survived by two daughters two sons a brother three sisters and seven grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Harold Lahmann arrived Friday from Vaniver Washington to visit the home of Mr and Mrs Darrell Neuendorf and family. They were summoned by the illness of her father Carl Neuendorf a patient at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo. He is reported in satisfactory condition. Mrs Lahmann will stay with his parents and Mrs Fred Lahmann at Tri- and the text notes further family arrangements.
Special meeting of Butter Mutual Telephone Co. held to consider switching to a dial operation at Frederik exchange. Eighty seven shares were presented and voted in favor, with implementation expected this fall and completion early in 1963.
Gary Weber 27 a Waverly salesman announced his bid for the Democratic nomination for state representative in Bremer county. He is the first Democrat to seek Lynes seat, while Henry Busch pursues the GOP. Weber has four years of college in history and political science, no degree yet, and has worked on campaigns in North Dakota. He plans platform details after the primary.
Readlyn Special reports the Farm Service Co. owned by Ed Scott and Larry Butzioff was recently purchased by Emil Roloff who runs the John Deere Implement at Waverly. It will operate as Farmers Implement under manager Lester Becker of Readlyn.
Funeral services were held in St. Peter Lutheran church Denver for William Lenius who died at his daughter's home at age 94. Born October 6 1867 in Littleton he married Amelia Schwartz in 1891 and served as buttermaker towns marshal and farmer before moving to Denver in 1949. He is survived by one daughter eight grandchildren 18 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were by Matthias Abbas Funeral Home Denver.
The American Cancer Society will hold its annual drive from April 7 to 30 with nationwide solicitations during the period. Local chairman Mrs. Carl W. Ryan of Tripoli has named a list of visiting solicitors for Tri Poli including Mrs. Wayne Quass Mrs. Willard Holm Mrs. Dan Mast Mrs. Helena Doepke Mrs. E A Carstensen and others.
Iowa has 15 percent more people per food store than the national average, refuting the idea that Iowa hosts many small stores serving few residents. Despite lower per capita food spending, Iowa’s agricultural character keeps the gap modest. modern self serve grocers grow while limited line retailers persist for personal service. Eating places rise 21 percent, restaurants outpacing national growth. drinking places fall 24 percent with tavern sales declining.
Twenty seven attended the monthly meeting of the Douglas township Farm Bureau women in the home of Mrs Clarence Bull. Miss Lou Shepherd guest speaker from Waverly spoke on Australia with slides from her trip. Mrs Stanley Feuchtwanger chaired the business session.
Tripoli High School junior and senior science departments present a two evening science project exhibit in the high school gym on April 2 and 3 from 7:00 to 9:30. Exhibits cover chemistry physics astronomy geology and an atomic energy display using a Geiger counter to demonstrate radiation from radioactive isotopes and how workers protect themselves. Public urged to attend no admission charge.
The Republican precinct caucus will be held Friday evening March 30 at 7 30 p m in Tri Poli Town Hall. Delegates to the county convention will be nominated and a new precinct committeeman and committeewoman elected for the next two years.
Tax Foundation figures show Iowans will pay an average of 264.50 dollars per person for the 1963 federal budget amid a national per capita tax average of 508.33 dollars. The estimate also notes Americans will work about 2 hours 19 minutes of a 24 hour day to cover taxes.
The Justice Department reportedly has sent to the White House the names of Edward J. McManus of Keokuk and William Hanson of Jefferson Republican for possible appointment to federal judgeships in Iowa. McManus, a 41 year old Democrat, previously served two Iowa Senate terms and was lieutenant governor in 1959 60.

Mr and Mrs Harry E Fergemann of 321 Maryland Waterloo will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday April 1 with open house 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm Their marriage took place at Winona Minnesota on April 1 1912 They have lived in Waterloo where he owns the Jenkins Fergemann Co Mr Fergemann is brother of W C Fergemann of Tripoli
Final rites were held Friday afternoon for Clara Steege age 75 at the United Church of Christ in Denver with burial at Fairview cemetery. The Rev Duane Meyer officiated. Casket bearers were Richard Jacobs Clifford Faust Wernold Stahihut Francis Hess Alvin Nottger and Duane Nottger. Arrangements were by Mathias Abbas Funeral Home Denver.
Carl E. Hagemann, Waverly, reports Bremer county February sales of Series E and H bonds totaling 51,850.00, lifting two month county total to 158,500.00 or 23 percent of the Freedom Bond Drive quota. State February sales reach 9,672,927 with two month total 24,696,892 or 32 percent. drive runs May and June but all six months count toward quotas. Other area counties show Butler 131,856 at 22 percent, Chickasaw 132,031 at 27 percent, and Fayette 197,238 at 23 percent.
Tripoli Band Mothers plan a meeting on Wednesday April 4 at 8 p m in the high school home economics room. Hostesses listed are Mrs Herb Jahnke Mrs Elmer Wilharm and Mrs Keniston Hoppenworth.

A Social Security Administration district office representative will be in Waverly at the courthouse on April 5 and April 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, per district manager Earl T. Johnson.

Seniors of the Tripoli Community High School will stage their class play in the high school auditorium Friday March 30 at 8 p.m. The three act production Second Fiddle features seniors Sue Tonne Carol Bock Linda Barry Naomi Thalacker Joyce Axon student director Robert Zander Judy O Connell Joel Klein Kathy Klemp and Dixon Bunger with Joyce Axon directing and Linda Schwarz as stage manager.
Bremer county 4-H officers announce the first skating party of the year at Blackhawk Rollerdrome Cedar Falls on Monday April 2 from 7 30 to 10 30 p m. All 4 H families are invited to attend and help make the event successful. Admission is charged and shoe skates are available for an additional cost.
Mr and Mrs Herman Brase will mark their fortieth anniversary with an open house on Sunday April 1 from 2 to 4 p m at St John s Lutheran church parlors Western Douglas. The couple married March 30 1922 and are parents of eight children and have 16.
Joel Wikner of Tripoli is accepted as a junior member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America Brattleboro VI. He earned a merit certificate and junior membership pin through dairy project work with registered Holstein cattle. Junior members gain most privileges except voting and may transfer animals at member rates, with breed progress reports. Since 1923 over 32,400 youths have participated in the program.
Tripoli Grain and Feed will hold a silver dollar day on Tuesday April 3 with free silver dollars on many items. Dan Mast says the event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free ham sandwiches coffee or milk will be served and several door prizes will be drawn at two drawings.
William Schlichting of Wm. Ambrose Auto Co. was honored with Ford Motor Company's 300-500 Club award at a Des Moines banquet last weekend. He ranked among the district's top Ford dealership car and truck salesmen for 1961.

Local weather observer J. M. Haydon reports the year’s highest temperature at 51 degrees on Tuesday noon. Snow is receding, freezing nights slow melt, flood risk lowers for low-lying areas, and there was no precipitation that week. Foggy conditions caused hazards at night and dawn.
Private First Class Douglas Bell of rural Tripoli is home briefly before reporting to Dover New Jersey. He enlisted June 22 1961 after graduating Tripoli High School and trained at Fort Riley Kansas Fort Monmouth New Jersey and Albuquerque New Mexico. He plans a 15 week calibration specialist course.
The office of Dr. C. R. Barry will be closed on April 2 3 and 4 while he attends clinical reviews at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester New York.
