Mona Campbell formerly Van Steenbergen and wife of Tripoli High principal Kert Campbell was named to the Iowa girls basketball Hall of Fame at an Saturday evening ceremony in Des Moines. She played for Prairie City High and was a fourth team selection as a freshman then earned first team all-state honors in her junior and senior years, ranking among the five all-time scorers through 1950. Nearly 300 teachers from four states attended a two day science short course at Iowa State University in Ames on March 12. Tripoli Community schools were represented by Larry D. Cox and Ted Olmstead. The program covered biochemistry biology chemistry geology meteorology and physics with teachers joining two symposia each and ISU staff speaking at general sessions. A panel discussed the book Silent Spring.
