Bipoli finishes third in the state wrestling tournament. Roger Buchholz wins the 133-pound title. Bipoli also places at 103 and 8th class, marking a strong showing at Water Weekend in the Auditorium.
Tripoli dominates with three state entrants Randy Neuendorf at 103 Roger Buchholz at 183 and Gene Johnson at heavyweight. Buchholz wins 133 pound title with 4 decisive wins and a 17 3 1 season record. Neuendorf takes third at 103 pounds while Johnson finishes fourth after illness at state. Coach Samuelson praises the squad’s four year build and leadership guiding younger wrestlers.
Vic's Readlyn captured the team championship at the city bowling meet with a 2959 handicap tally. Jerry Snelling posted a 660 handicap in singles, improving on the previous year, as 17 singles prizes and eight doubles prizes were awarded. Also noted are meetings of the Brandenburg-Krueger Auxiliary and Young Homemakers with an upcoming district event and a cancer film program.
Tripoli VFW Post and Auxiliary will host the Iowa Third District meeting in Tripoli on Saturday March 8. Registration starts at 9:00 a m at the Post Home for VFW and Auxiliary members. A noon dinner is served by the Tripoli VFW Auxiliary in the Tripoli Town Hall. Main business sessions begin at 1 40 p m with the VFW meeting at the Post Home and the Auxiliary meeting in the West Element.
Dr. W G Goebel traveled to St Paul after the death of his father H F Goebel age 88 at the Croixdale Home Bayport Minnesota. Surviving relatives include son Norman St Paul and daughter Mrs John Goerss Farmington Minnesota.

Mr and Mrs Herold Miller returned Tuesday evening from a visit with daughter in Aurora Colorado. Mr Miller was hospitalized part of the time while there.
James Leistikow of Readlyn was admitted to Allen Memorial Hospital today and will undergo surgery tomorrow.
Tripoli’s fifth annual Pancake Day drew strong crowds at Town Hall on a sunny day. About 1,140 people were served during a seven hour session with 2,030 sausages and 18 gallons of syrup used. Other totals include 1,050 cups of coffee, 45 pounds of butter, 480 half pints of milk, 120 pounds pancake flour, 20 gallons buttermilk, 30 dozen eggs and five gallons cooking oil.
Fred J. Tonne 73 died at Sumner hospital after a nine day stay. Funeral services are planned for Friday at 2 p.m. at Faith United Church of Christ Tripoli with a 1 50 p m family prayer in the church chapel. Born February 25 1895 he was a lifelong farmer near Frederika. Survivors include daughter Mabel Thurm Waterloo granddaughter and two sisters in Washington. American Legion Post 223 Sumner will conduct military rites. Rettig Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr and Mrs Rudy Wedeking attended the funeral Monday for Mrs George Schnock at Waterloo.
Tripoli Jaycees sponsor an evening of Donkey basketball at the high school gym on Friday starting at 7 30 p m. The three game event features Tripoli cheerleaders versus Tripoli Commercial Club and Tripoli Jaycees versus THS faculty with a championship to crown the king of the donkeys. Tickets available at local banks and Jaycee members.
Eight year old Lavern Tegtmeier Jr. suffered a fracture above the knee while playing Tuesday morning at home. He was taken to Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo for hospitalization likely lasting several weeks.
Tripoli Jaycees will hold a meeting Thursday March 6 at 9 15 p m at the VFW Home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Faith United Church of Christ for Sarah Holm 79 who died at her home Saturday morning Burial was in the church cemetery with Rev Keith Selberg officiating Pallbearers were Ronald Henninger Donald James Jr Steven Tegtmeier Jerry Holm Bradley Holm and Robert Osborn Sarah Louise Holm was born February 8 1890 in Dayton Township Bremer County daughter of Conrad and Katherine Becker She married Fred Holm May 10 1910 and they farmed near Tripoli before moving to Tripoli in 1947 She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary Survived by husband Fred three sons three daughters 15 grandchildren eight great grandchildren two sisters and other relatives She was preceded by five brothers four sisters and two grandchildren.
The Tripoli Panthers were edged 61 50 by the Sumner Aces in the sectional final on Thursday night. Sumner shot 53 percent while Tripoli connected on 45 percent from the line, and Tripoli missed key one and one opportunities in the fourth quarter. Coach Dave Ray praised the team's hustle but lamented costly turnovers and missed chances as the season ends at 15 5 with strong senior leadership.
Tripoli Community School District announces kindergarten registration for the 1969-70 year on Wednesday March 12. Children must be five by September 15 and birth certificates plus immunization records are required. Registration runs 8 am to 4:30 pm in East Grade School with time blocks by last name to reduce waits.
West Central of Maynard edged Wapsie Valley 50-48 in the district final at Monticello to earn a state tournament berth. West Central trailed 42-35 after three quarters but rallied with 15 points in the final period.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Brandt moved Saturday into the home they recently bought from the John Beisner estate. They previously resided on a farm near Waverly which has been sold.
