Tripoli Boy Loses Leg in Train Mishap
Douglas Hodges, 15, son of Mrs Joy Hodges of Tripoli, was injured when a moving train dragged his left leg while he tried to board a freight at Davenport. He had hitchhiked to Davenport, was moved to Iowa City, and had his leg amputated seven inches below the knee. He resides at Childrens Hospital Ward A room 104 Iowa City Iowa 52240 and welcomes cards from friends.

Grahiman Boy 12 Electrocuted On Farm Near Tripoli
Charles Grahlman age 12 died Thursday afternoon at his parents farm home sixty miles north and east of Tripoli while using a drill to mix spray for a corn application. The drill shorted and the cord wrapped his arm as the ground was wet. He was found by his father Dale Grahlman and died en route to Sumner Hospital. Funeral held June 6 at Faith United Church of Christ Tripoli with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery Fredericksburg. He is survived by his parents three brothers and three sisters, and by grandparents in Michigan and California.

Miss Peggy Edwards daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Edwards of Tripoli has been accepted as a member of the Youth Service Corps of the American Lutheran Church assigned to the Woodward State Hospital School for the coming summer. They will be honored at a reception June 13 and begin a week long orientation before serving in wards to aid mentally retarded residents and support the summer education and recreation programs. On weekends they will visit churches to share experiences. Dr W B Weeher’s office will be closed June 10 to June 26.

Funeral Rites in California for Edwin Henning
Funeral services were held in Alhambra California May 24 for Edwin Henning who died May 20 after hospitalization in a California Veterans hospital since shortly after Christmas. He was a former resident here where he worked as a butter maker at Buck Creek and with his wife ran the Tip Top Cafe in Tripoli before moving to California. Survivors include his wife Evah one daughter Zenovia (Mrs Everett Mitchell) California five grandchildren one sister Mrs Everett Mitchell (Elsie) Waterloo and one brother Wm Henning Sumner.

The 1971 National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo Iowa runs June 15 to 20 with over 1500 horses and ponies expected. Gayle Westendorf of Tripoli, son of Mr and Mrs Arnold Westendorf, won a 5060 Maytag Engineering Scholarship at Iowa State University for the 1971 72 year.
