The Board proposes a total budget of 2 048 263 with 1 017 801 to be raised by taxation. Cash reserves and other receipts total 1 385 ? , reducing the tax need. Hearing on July 30 at 10:00 a.m. in Waverly courthouse invites taxpayers to speak for or against the estimate.
Lynn Robinson of Plainfield is the first contestant in the 1971 Brymer County Fair Queen pageant. She is a Plainfield High School senior with a B average and active in 4-H, drama, speech, and school newspaper. Robinson is active in her church youth group and seeks to establish a local center in Plainfield. The Farm Bureau sponsors the event with August 6 marking the start of open judging for all entrants.
Bremer County Farm Bureau and Bremer County Quality Pork Producers sponsor the Cookout King contest at the Waverly Fairgrounds on August 7 with a 4 p.m. judging time. If rain occurs it will move to August 8. Open to Iowa resident men over 12 with farm bureau employees excluded. Entries due by July 23 at the Farm Bureau office in Waverly.
Supplemental foods will be distributed to all children under five, pregnant and nursing mothers certified by a nurse or doctor. The event runs Wednesday July 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tripoli City Hall.
The School Board approved a one year budget totaling 648 050 dollars with a 32 156 dollar increase in the General Fund over last year. The plan funds Administration Instruction Health Services Transportation Fixed Charges Operations and Maintenance and other categories including Debt Service and Title I. The annual meeting also accepted the Treasurer and secretary reports along with activity and hot lunch accounts.
Lloyd R. Smith announces completion of the 1970 audit for Readlyn showing eleven funds with receipts over disbursements of 26513.76 and total revenue of 148777.52 against expenditures 122513.76. Bonded debt stands at 92000 with 10000 paid. assessed valuation 903392 and levy 31841 mills. Recommendations urge prenumbered receipts, proper clerk records, library reporting, monthly bank reconciliations, and annual council reports.
Rain again plagued Tripoli's two day Harvest Festival July 9 and 10 yet crowds remained large and events, including the parade led by Bremer County Dairy Princess contestants, went on. Dr. Max and Mambo hosted the pageant and kiddie parade with a last minute indoor stage setup at Ruhr Chevrolet. Janet Dietz was crowned Bremer County Dairy Princess 1971 after judging, parade participation, and coronation ceremonies.
Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examining team will be at Tripoli town hall on Saturday morning, July 17, from 8 am to noon. Renewals issued until noon, written and driving tests offered until 11 am. Examiners not return to Tripoli until August 21.
The Sr. High Band will rehearse in the High School band room Thursday evening July 15 at 8 p.m. Students and staff are reminded to bring instruments and music.
The second annual Kid's golf tournament is scheduled for Monday, August 2, at Maple Hills Country Club. Tom Larson states three groups for boys and three for girls by grades 1-2-3, 4-5-6, and 7th grade plus. Flighting requires three score cards by August 1 with two flights each for boys and girls.
The United Methodist flower show will be held at the Frederika church on Tuesday August 3 at 2 p.m. Entries must be submitted by 1 p.m. The program starts at 2.
Memorials were established in Bremer county through the Iowa Division of the American Cancer Society from March 1 to June 1, 1971. Mourning gifts were received in memory of Elaine Erickson, Leo Hugh es, Edwin Kasemeier, Clarence L. McCumber, Caroline McDonald, John W. Moeller, Jesse Nichols, Norma Schrader, Alice Strottman, Louis Tegtmeier, Gordon E. Trewin, Dora Wedemeier, Edwin Zander, and Otto Zinn.
Tripoli membership picnic announced with Everett Ambrose as chair and a committee including Ervin Volker Harry Rathe Robert Selck Jerry Klosterman and Richard Traog. Attendees should contact Ray Bunger by Saturday for reservations and the committee will meet midweek to decide time and location.
Navy Petty Officer Third Class Glen R. Ladage son of Mr and Mrs Arno H Ladage of 608 First SE Tripoli Iowa is deployed to the Western Pacific aboard the San Diego based destroyer tender USS Prairie as part of a Pacific duty assignment.

Miss Caroline Kehe, a Business Education teacher in the San Diego Unified School District, is promoted to freshman-sophomore counselor at E R Snyder Continuation High School for 1971 72. She will also pursue a Master’s in Psychology at the University of San Diego and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Eldo Kehe, a 1963 graduate of UNI Cedar Falls.
Tripoli Panthers defeated Wapsie Valley 3-2 in extra innings as Willis Hildebrandt drove in Tony Magnall who doubled to start the eighth. Magnall had one hit and two runs. Boeckmann made fine centerfield catches.
