The Lutheran children's home in Waverly completes a new two level cottage style building for junior boys. It includes four supervisor apartments, living and craft areas, and storage. Built under Woodburn Neil and Winnebago Constructors with several firms scheduled to work. A July 11 festival day features addresses by H W Siefkes and Judge L E Northwood, with the Municipal Band and local clergy participating.

One of five weekend drownings in Iowa was 7 year old Michael Schoonover of Waverly. He drowned Monday at a Strawberry Point beach while the family traveled from Illinois. The Schoonovers lived with grandparents in Tripoli. Iowa had ten traffic fatalities as the national toll neared 550 with 725 officers patrolling the roads, the largest such effort in state history.
