Bremer County Fines Totals For 1971 Audit Details
State Auditor reports Bremer County collected 959,860.42 in fines in 1971 across 4285 cases with individual totals by official and court. County treasurer funds show 111,881.21 in fines accounted, 69,600.00 apportioned to ten school districts, led by Waverly-Shell Rock and Sumner communities, with a 1970 audit noting 2,588 cases for 53,095.69 in fines.

Sumner Couple Killed Saturday In Auto Accident
Mr and Mrs Everett OBrien of Sumner were killed when their car collided with a vehicle driven by Michael Nelson of Independence at the Highway 63 intersection near Dunkerton. Lt James OBrien, 2nd Lt James OBrien of Quantico, and Nelson were hospitalized. Nelson faces manslaughter and DUI charges.

Funeral services for Herman Klenzmann 81 were held June 30 at Zion Lutheran Church Readlyn with burial in the church cemetery. He died Wednesday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after a lengthy illness. He was born September 1 1890 in Franklin Township Bremer County Iowa and lived in the Oran Readlyn area retiring from farming in 1950. Survived by wife Elizabeth Meier daughter Renetta Schneider Waterloo son Clarence Sumner sister Johanna Staack Sumner. Cleveland Funeral Home Readlyn had charge.

Hail and rainstorm hit Bremer County causing severe damage to soybeans and swift leaf loss in corn fields while corn in early growth may regrow. Extension Crop Specialist Kay Connelly surveyed the area, meeting about 70 farmers at Bo Ellison farm and 65 near Readlyn.
