Iowa farmers likely plant more soybeans than corn in 1973
ISU extension economist Bob Wisner says the USDA January crop survey should be treated cautiously as factors like fertilizer, weather, and the 1973 set aside program could alter actual plantings. The survey shows 72 million acres of corn and 49.3 million acres of soybeans nationally, with Iowa at 11.9 million acres of corn and 64 million acres of soybeans, while soybean prices surge on late 1970s-like expectations amid market losses and weather delays.
