New Tripoli area school district trimmed after hearing

Bremer and Chickasaw county boards trimmed the proposed Tripoli Community School district removing several northeast Bremer lands and northern Chickasaw lands after objections. Boundary changes affect Bremer Fredericka and Leroy townships and Richland in Chickasaw. A 20 day objection window begins. if none, election could be set for late March with July 1 district formation. Directors will be four district representatives and one at large elected by all voters. Legal counsel represented objectors and supporters in Monday night hearing.

Dorothy Henning Weds Duane Mueller in Jan ceremony

Dorothy Henning daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Henning wed Pfc. Duane Mueller son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mueller Sumner January 12 at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. William F. Goetz officiated with organist Mrs. E. H. Reinhardt. The couple will reside near Fort Riley Kansas where Mueller is stationed.

Three Farm Auctions Planned Near Tripoli Next Week

Three area farmers announce auctions next week with cattle hogs and machinery. Gillen and Frank Bieneman sell Friday three miles east of Tripoli and 4 1/2 miles south with 21 cattle 20 hogs and various equipment. Hexom auctioneer and American Savings Bank clerk. Kenneth Drape lists Saturday at C W Waterman farm five miles north of Tripoli on Frederika road offering machinery including milking gear. Orville Naber Dumont to own sale and bank clerk. Henry Schwemm holds sale next Wednesday Jan 29 at 11 a m near junction of Highways 63 and 3 featuring 128 livestock including 53 Holsteins plus machinery and misc items. Sportsmen's Club Annual Meeting at Town Hall

The Wapsie Sportsmen's Club holds its annual meeting at Town Hall next Tuesday night with a fish dinner at 7 o'clock. Dinner is free for members who pay 1958 dues. Tables at the entrance will speed dues payment. New members welcome. board elections and a speaker are planned.

Readlyn Sportsmen host first Sunday fox hunt

Readlyn Special reports the Readlyn Sportsmen's club held its first Sunday afternoon circle fox hunt with over 30 hunters participating. One fox was bagged and five more hunts are planned meeting at 1 p.m. at Sauerbrei's Cafe north of town.

Commercial Club to Sell House Numbers for Tripoli Streets

The Commercial Club resumed meetings and discussed selling house numbers to households to fund street marking at town intersections. Proceeds will go to Tripoli Woman's Club to support the project. Twenty five members attended with dinner by Congregational Women's Fellowship. New officers to be elected next month.

Elmer Matthias Purchases Frederika Locker from Camps

Mr and Mrs Elmer Matthias farmers southeast of Sumner have bought the Frederika Locker and Grocery from Mr and Mrs Robert Camp and took possession Jan 20. The Camps also bought the Matthias farm and moved Monday. The Matthiases bought Mrs Hazel Ager home in the north part of town and moved Saturday, as Mrs Ager moved to her east town home vacated last fall by Mr and Mrs Virgil Lampe and daughter.

Winter Field Day To Be Sponsored Here on Feb. 2

Wapsie Sportsmen's club will sponsor its second annual Winter Field Day an ice fishing derby at Tot's Lake east of Tripoli on Sunday Feb. 2. Sportsmen from surrounding territory are invited to participate. Prizes will be offered including a grand prize and first prizes in three divisions. A small entry fee will defray prize costs. Details will be announced in next week's Lead.

Challenge to Iowa Education Program Opens in Bremer County

Bremer county residents can join the state wide Challenge to Iowa educational program starting February 1 and 2. Extension Director Doyle N. Gordon says six week sessions will cover topics on change in Iowa and the world and invite local discussion groups. Fact sheets and TV programs will accompany weekly discussions, with results summarized and made public.

Sands Pled Guilty To Hit Run Charge Sentence Suspended

Ronald Sands, a Tripoli farm youth, pleaded guilty in district court at Waverly to leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Judge Tom Boynton gave a suspended nine month term in Bremer County jail and costs, with parole to Rev. L. E. Gatch. The Oct. 11 Sumner accident left a three year old girl fatally injured. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Platte visited Mrs. Frieda Mummelthie in Waverly.

Tripoli junior high teams overpower Plainfield in doubleheader

Tripoli junior high boys defeated Plainfield in both games on Saturday. Seventh-eighth graders won 32 26 with Schmidt scoring 10 points and Bonorden siblings contributing. Ninth graders dominated 59 31 led by Kehe with 14 points while Plainfield’s Kelly tallied 16.

Meeting Of Wapsipinicon Area Boy Scout Council

About 50 members of the executive board of the Wapsipinicon Area Council Boy Scouts of America attended a dinner meeting at Grace Lutheran church. President Craig Mosier of Waterloo led a program of committee reports. An application for a new area charter was prepared and approved with Elmer Wilharm of Tripoli and Fred Infelt of Waverly as hosts.

Tripoli Panthers swept by Denver in basketball doubleheader

Tripoli boys lost 36-31 to Denver as Eldon Heideman and Doug Bell led with nine points each. In the girls game Denver won 38-21 with S Matthias scoring 19 top, Hoppenworth 14 for Tripoli. Both teams head to next league action against Plainfield a week from Friday.
