After multiple attempts a Des Moines area Ground Observer Corps post was organized Monday night by Tripoli Commercial club members. Ray Bunger named temporary supervisor as volunteers form a nucleus for the post while awaiting permanent officers. The post will operate on a standby basis with one Sunday monthly drills to spot planes for the Des Moines center.

Car Train Crash in Waverly Kills Mrs Degelau
Mrs. Fred Degelau, 71, died after a car struck by a Chicago Great Western freight train at a First street crossing in Waverly. Her daughter in law, Mrs. Herbert Wittenburg, 46, survived with injuries as the car’s occupants were en route to a convalescent home. Funeral services were held at St John Lutheran Church.

Jefferson No. 1 school at the junction of highways 63 and 3 becomes the county's first to install a television set for teaching aid. A 17 inch set is in use part time for classroom instruction, funded mainly by pupil fundraising with help from Ken N McClement and area donors. William J Kehe Rites Held In Denver Saturday
William J Kehe 71 died suddenly at his home in Denver on January 19 funeral services were held at 1 45 from Matthias funeral home and 2 oclock at St Peters Lutheran church with burial in the church cemetery. He was born October 16 1883 in Bremer county and married Bertha in 1906. He farmed east of Denver for 30 years and served 12 years on the Denver town council. He is survived by his wife three sons a daughter two brothers a sister 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
