Hog market outlook shows March lift but continued price pressure
Hog inventory estimates point to January-March marketings about 3 percent below a year earlier and below October-December. Prices are seen easing from late December levels in the coming weeks with Interior Iowa-Southern Minnesota 200-240 pound hogs averaging near 27.50 per hundredweight for the quarter, then dipping toward 25.50-26.00 by late March and into April.

Pork market forecast pins hope on 1973 farrowings
Futrell predicts market conditions in late 1973 will hinge on the 1973 spring pig crop and December to May farrowings. If farrowings meet expectations, summer marketings could rise 7 to 8 percent above 1972 and fall quarter volume 5 to 6 percent higher. Prices for 200-240 lb butchers in Interior Iowa may average about 26 dollars in Q3 and 23 dollars in Q4, with expansion in farrowings risking higher pork supply and weaker prices unless growth is restrained.
