Adult Community Classes Start January 23 at Tripoli THS

Adult evening classes open January 23 at Tripoli High School under Kard Harms. Seven courses offered. six begin on the 23rd with driver education running into February. Instructors include Ott Fish Cker Kuperschmitt Ix on Ferree and Ray. Registration January 16–20 from 9:00 to 3:30 in the superintendent's office. minimum 10 participants required. $2.40 fee.

Iowa taxpayers may file single or joint state returns

First time filers in Iowa may use a single return or keep separate returns under the new withholding plan. If a couple files single and one owes money while the other is owed a refund, they can combine to issue one payment or still file separately if preferred. The Iowa Society of CPAs notes no mandatory joint filing for state returns.

Enver town lacks a permanent fire chief after Harold Kehe resigns on January 3. Kehe, 30-year department veteran and 15-year chief, sought to remain in the department but could not due to town duties. Mayor Gielau will appoint after Fire Commission recommendation.

Busch Named Chairman of Key Iowa House Committee

Rep Henry Busch of Bremer County was named chair of the new governmental reorganization committee as the Iowa Legislature opened its session. He begins his third term and will also serve on judiciary and appropriations committees, with the panel guiding a plan to reduce 120 departments to 13 agencies.

Easter Cantata Planned for Area Churches in Tripoli District

A Jan 4 meeting at Grace Lutheran parsonage outlined an Easter cantata for churches in the Tripoli Community School District. Participants included Mrs. Elsa Tegtmeier and multiple pastors. The exact Easter date will be announced. Koengeter and Buhr were chosen to finalize presentation details. Tripoli hosts eight-team wrestling invitational Saturday

An eight-team wrestling invitational is set for Saturday at Tripoli Community High School. Teams include Denver Greene Turkey Valley Janesville Nashua Plainfield Wapsie Valley and Tripoli. Sessions run 9:00 a.m. quarter finals 2:00 p.m. semi finals and 7:00 p.m. consolation finals with admission 75 cents for adults and 50 cents for students. Fulltime Head Start Cancelled Over Funding Shortfall

The Office of Economic Opportunity in Waverly headed by Fred Brown confirmed the cancellation of the Year Around Head Start Program due to lack of approved funds. The plan had called for five day a week classes at Faith United Church of Christ Tripoli for underprivileged children from three counties, but the eight week summer program remains in effect with applications open for needy families.

Last Rites for Ervin Taylor 84 in Frederika

Ervin Taylor 84 died Saturday morning at Allen Convalescent Home Waterloo. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Frederika Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Brown officiating. Interment at Alcock Cemetery. He was born June 29 1882 in Elgin Illinois and moved to Frederika with his family as an infant. He married Mary Ebert February 4 1915 and worked at Frederika Hardware for years. Surviving are his widow one sister Katherine Davis Waterloo. He was preceded by seven brothers and three sisters.

Pantherettes Defeat Fayette In Non-Conference Battle

The Tripoli Pantherettes beat Fayette 56 to 47 in non-conference girls basketball at Fayette. They trailed early but rallied in the second half, shooting 38 percent and 69 percent from the line. Kris Ryan came off the bench in the third quarter for 15 points.
