Tripoli’s boys basketball return after the holidays as they host Sumner Friday night in a renewed rivalry. The Panthers sit 7-4, aiming to even non conference play after two losses in three non league games. The girls side returns next Tuesday for a Denver doubleheader.
The Bremer County District Court in Waverly selected the grand jury for the January term. Judge Tom Boynton of Forest City presided. Foreman A E Chandler of Waverly led jurors Ernest Mohling Herbert McGilligan William A Martin M W Vilmont Michael Rosol and Ewald Remmers.
Readlyn Music Boosters will sponsor a Home Talent show Friday night January 14 in the Readlyn Community building starting at 8 pm. Enter by contacting Mrs Walter Johnson or committee members Mrs George Gundacker Mrs Darrell Grinnell Mrs Herb Otto or Mrs Fred Piehl.
Galen E. Shipp a 22 year old Northwestern Bible college student from the Plainfield area died in a two car collision ten miles west of Farmington Minnesota. His brother Gordon Shipp 24 and LaVonne Abbas 24 of Waverly were seriously injured and hospitalized. Arthur E Williams 67 of Lakeville Minnesota drove the other car.
The Fremont Co operative Creamery Co will hold its annual meeting at the Tri Poli creamery on Monday January 10 starting at 1 30 p m President Lawrence Snelling will preside with members urged to attend for business and reports.
A dense fog front described as California-style moved into the Tripoli area Tuesday, reducing visibility to about 100 feet by nightfall and slowing auto travel. Freezing mist warned for Wednesday morning, with only trace precipitation forming a thin ice film. temperatures climbed from seven to eight above in the recent deep freeze before warming into the 40s and 30s through the week.
The Tripoli Boosters 4-H Club schedules its annual Dad's Night next Wednesday January 12 at 8 p m. at the schoolhouse two miles south and two miles east of Tripoli. A county Soil Conservation Service representative leads the program with all welcome to attend.
Mrs Julius Wille escaped injury after a car side swiped a transport truck half a mile west of Tripoli on Highway 93 late Tuesday afternoon. The crash caused about 125 in damage as Wille’s car spun into a ditch but she was treated for shock with no serious injuries.
Mayor Rudolph Piegers reports only one case in December with Robert Joens fined 2 dollars plus 1 dollar costs for improper parking on information by Town Marshal Ed Bany. Piegers aims to improve next year with fewer violators in 1955.
Tripoli businessman Jack M. Frese has become the area State Farm agent in Bloomington TN, taking over from Howard Renwick who served since September 1953. Frese continues to run his variety store and hold a real estate broker’s license while dedicating more time to insurance.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet Tuesday evening January 11 at the town hall. Hostesses are Kay Goebel Helen Goodenbour Alvina Schroeder and Frieda Schultz.
Charles Block, son of Mr and Mrs L J Block, returned home from Sumner Community hospital New Year's day after undergoing a tonsillectomy Friday.
Kramer's Produce cagers lost in the second round of a Waterloo invitational, edged 60 59 by Deep Rock of Marshalltown. Deep Rock rallied late after trailing 47 44 in the third quarter, with Kuethe scoring 17 for Tripoli.
Marian Lahmann resumed studies at State University of Iowa after holidays with her parents Mr and Mrs Erhardt Lahmann. She plans to attend medical school in Iowa City next fall.
The Bremer County District Court in Waverly opens its January term presided by Tom Boynton. Twenty three new civil and equitable actions are listed, including estates of Samsel Kielman and Kielman estates, and multiple company versus individual suits. New criminal cases include charges against Andrews, Alexander, Speed, and Myers. Grand jurors reported and trial jurors set for Monday at 10 a.m.
The American Savings Bank annual condition report for 1954 notes assets rose from $1,716,928.63 to $1,791,297.96. Cash declined to $365,892.35 while U S government obligations and loans increased. Deposits grew to $1,656,740.15 and capital rose to $134,557.81 under President Aug Krueger and cashier L H Fink.

Farmers in Bremer county were told of cutoff dates for price support loans and purchase agreements on 1954 crops. Small grains flax seed and soybeans must apply by Jan 31 while 1954 corn loans and purchase agreements end May 31. Records show 161 corn loans 195,293 bushels 34 soybean loans 21,987 bushels 28 oat loans 22,049 bushels and 24 warehouse soybean loans 9,852 bushels. Loan rates are corn 1.56 soybeans 2.22 oats 0.74 dollars per bushel.
Willard Holm underwent an appendectomy at Scholtz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo early Saturday morning. Medical staff reported a routine procedure with no complications and Holm is expected to recover at the hospital.
Bremer County deliveries of price supported corn total 620 309 bushels in the period ending this season James Eveland ASC chairman notes at least 158 087 bushels will stay on farms under resealing agreements. Resealed corn storage provides a 15 cent per bushel payment and keeps corn available for future sale while aiding government storage needs.
Nine Tripoli retail establishments announce Saturday night closing hours moved to 10 p m effective immediately. Starting Jan 8 stores will close at 10 p m each Saturday while weekday hours stay the same. Stores adopting the change include Frese's Joel's Briardale Store Kuhrt Clothiers Michael's Food Market Rettig Furniture The Farmers Store Tripoli Hardware Tripoli Mercantile Co and Warner's.
Richard Wolf and Sophia Wolf sue Carl Rinkleff and Helen Rinkleff in a law matter with auto accident claims. James K. Lambert files against Melvin Karnatz over a dispute. Paul Gorzney also sues Melvin Karnatz for an auto collision. Connie Mae Johnson seeks divorce from Leland Arthur Johnson alleging cruel and inhuman treatment.
Mrs. Lizzie Pieper is spending time with relatives in Waterloo, visiting and socializing during the stay.
Tripoli reports its Community Chest first fund drive exceeded the $2,530 quota with cash and pledges received by Monday. The drive supports seven welfare and charity organizations. A townwide push and new contributors helped surpass the goal. exact totals and expenses will be announced at the spring meeting.
Darlene Bahlmann daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl Bahlmann leaves home for Long Beach California to visit Mrs Ernest Chamber and son Jerry. Their residence is 218 Line Avenue.

About 200 members attended the Bremer County Farm Bureau kickoff at Tripoli Town Hall on Monday afternoon signaling the start of the annual membership campaign. A dinner preceded the meeting. The goal is 1,520 members. State organizer director Don McIntyre of Des Moines spoke. Membership committee members include H. H. Hildebrandt, Harvey Carolus, Mervyn Ormston, Donald Zipse, Erwin Kappmeyer, and Duane Bockholt.
