Tripoli district approves 410000 high school bond

Voters in the Tripoli Community School district backed a 410000 bond to build a new high school and remodel the current building for a hot lunch program. The tally was 636 in favor 67 opposed and 10 spoiled ballots among 713 total votes. The measure passed 89.2 percent.

Panthers Triumph Over New Hampton in Semifinal Battle

Tripoli cagers overwhelmed New Hampton 62-53 to reach the semifinals in New Hampton tonight. Ron Henninger led Tripoli with 32 points as Kennedy and Denner added 16 and 14 for New Hampton. Oelwein upset Tripoli later 62-54 in a warmup, Dennis Olejniczak scoring 15 for Tripoli and Ramay 21 for Oelwein.

Sportsmen's Club to Erect Shelter at Tot's Lake

Wapsie Sportsmen's club will build a picnic shelter at the east end of Tot's Lake this spring. Directors and the planning committee will start once weather permits as part of a long range improvement program. Next meeting on March 26 will be Ladies' Night with Lloyd Bailey of the Iowa Conservation Commission as guest. Discussion covered rough fish control at Sweet's Marsh.

Discussion Meeting On New District At Readlyn Friday

A meeting to discuss the proposed Wapsie Valley Community School district will be held Friday night at Readlyn school. Henry Lau, of the citizens study committee, announced the plan and said a brochure with details will be distributed to each home in the area prior to the discussion. All residents of the proposed district are invited.

Life Size Human Torso Model Available to Bremer County Schools

A life-size plastic torso crafted from actual organ casts arrives at the Bremer County superintendent's office. The dissectable model comprises 20 parts with over 1,000 identifiable structures and textures matching real anatomy. Schools may borrow it from the county office to enhance educational programs.

Readlyn Mutual Insurance association will hold its annual meeting Saturday at 1 p m in the V F W hall at Readlyn. A. H. Matthias secretary says two directors will be elected. Funeral at Waterloo Friday for Brother Of Tripoli Resident

Waterloo funeral services will be held Friday afternoon for Henry Pries 55 of Tripoli notable as brother of Arnold Pries. He died Monday afternoon near Highway 63 in an auto truck mishap likely from a heart attack. Born October 28 1901 in Bremer county he married Elsie Kroblin in 1922 at Waverly. He worked for Rath Packing Co and is survived by his wife eight daughters four sons his mother three sisters two brothers and seven grandchildren.

Fog and Ice Cause Weekend Area Auto Accidents

Slippery pavements and dense fog led to several traffic mishaps over the weekend with no serious injuries reported. Edward Bennett of Tripoli avoided major harm when his 1957 Ford rear-ended a semi trailer north of the Highways 63 and 57 junction, sustaining about 800 dollars in damage. Bennett and passenger James Keough of Denver were treated for minor injuries at Allen Memorial hospital. The Rev. A C Woodcock, longtime Congregational church minister, slid into the rear of a Waverly school bus east of Waverly, suffering bumps and bruises as his 1939 Ford sustained minor damage.

Readlyn Board Sees Three Vacancies With No Nominations

Readlyn Special report states no candidates were nominated for three vacancies on the Readlyn Independent School District board. Voting to fill two three year terms and one two year term will be held Monday March 11. Victor Happel and E W Matthias terms end this year and neither seeks reelection. A director must replace Dr Carl E Venzke, who resigns. Filing deadline is noon Friday.

Waverly Stops Readlyn In Sectional Play Showdown

Waverly eliminated Readlyn from Class A sectional action at Waverly Monday night by a 79-51 final after building a 45-27 halftime lead. Bremer county peers Janesville Denver and Frederika advanced in Class B, with Janesville routing Oran 75-29 and plans set for Denver Tuesday. Finchford defeated Plainfield 62-49 in the other Class B game as Marble Rock and Allison were slated for Tuesday night games.

New Manager Named At Readlyn Yard Moves Family There

VFW Post Collects $44 For Polio Fight

The Veterans of Foreign Wars reports a total of 44 dollars raised in the March of Dimes drive over the past two weeks. Down town business display cards contributed 34 dollars, with the VFW adding 10 dollars. Funds are being sent to the county fund.

Deadline Friday For Filing Papers For School Posts

Friday noon is the deadline for filing nomination papers for candidates to the Tripoli Community School district board of directors. Secretary Robert H. Kuhrt reminded residents. So far two candidates have filed Walter Lohmann and Lawrence Snelling, who seek seats to succeed themselves. Lohmann is current board president. both were elected last year to serve until the next regular election after the district began July 1. Vacancies are for three-year terms.
