The nual financial report for the Town of Tripoli as of December 31, 1966, shows cash in the general fund of 34 659.88 and utilities fund of 1 211.04, with $10 000 in certificates of deposit in each of the utility and road use tax funds. Indebtedness stood at 0. outstanding sewer bonds of 3 000 per year with 12 years remaining are paid from water and sewer rental assessments. Total receipts were 61 548.36 in the general fund and 16 694.20 in utilities. expenditures 58 122.39 and 17 051.16 respectively, with public safety expenses rising 1 668.87. Road use tax receipts were 11 311.48 and liquor profit tax 2 479.25. assessed valuation subject to tax was 1 502 879 with 62 581 in agricultural lands. Total monies and credits listed at 749 952.

Community Easter Cantata Rehearsal in Tripoli High School
Rehearsal for the Easter cantata Redeemer Liveth scheduled Sunday February 12 at 2:00 PM in Tripoli High School room. Funeral Service Held Monday for William Propp
Funeral services were Monday at Faith United Church of Christ for William Propp 91 who died Friday at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo. He lived in Warren township and Tripoli and was survived by a sister nieces and nephews. Burial followed at the church cemetery with casket bearers listed. The Rev E F Puhlmann officiated. Propp was born September 13 1875 in Warren township and married Anna Burmeister November 3 1904 in Leroy township.

Bremer Engineer Closes Smoke Town Bridge in Southeast County
Bremer county engineer Earl H. Welshons ordered the Smoke Town bridge closed to all traffic after a thorough inspection. The light design crossing over the WapSsipinicon river 1.4 miles north of Iowa highway No. 3 is over 80 years old and beyond economical repair. Some local traffic still uses the crossing but replacement is not financially feasible.

County Board Lets Bids for Four Trucks
Bremer county Board of Supervisors received bids on Feb 1 for three 19 500 GVW trucks with cab and chassis and one 7 000 GVW six passenger with cab and chassis. Independence took the reserve match 18 to 16. The Tripoli junior high squad finished undefeated 5-0 with a 20 to 3 victory at Plainfield and will return most of its eight wrestlers next year.

Iowa VFW awards heroism medal to Frederika man
Kenneth Bahlmann of Frederika received the VFW heroism medal at the Brandenburg Krumger Post in Tripoli on February 1. He saved a child from drowning in the Wapsipinicon River near the Frederika dam on May 26, 1966, while working for the New Hampton newspaper. He now works at the Waterloo Daily Courier.
