Enrollment on the first day shows declines from last year. Howard school superintendent notes kindergarten through sixth grade has 381 students this year versus 406 last year. Junior and senior high grades seven to twelve total 386, down from 398 previously.
Senator Grassley plans informal Post meetings at City Hall this Saturday in Vernon. He invites residents with agency or department problems to attend and speak with him, aiming for greater contact between the Third Congressional District and their representative. Security officials will also attend at the Courthouse Room during morning hours on September 4.
Seventeen firemen from Denver and Janesville tackled a lightning sparked blaze at the Alvin Eggena farm 42 miles southwest of Denver. The roof and loft straw suffered heavy damage while most hogs were saved except one possibly struck. Fire crews worked until near dawn and a tornado warning whistle confusion followed.
The Tripoli Public Library will continue story-time for children ages 3 to 5 in August under Mrs. Sondra Lewis. Starting now, sessions occur Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:00 pm with 10 to 14 attendees monthly. All eligible children are invited to attend. John Weidemann was hospitalized after a heart attack at home.
Rod Bergman of Klemp Plumbing and Heating Tripoli completed a one week course at a Lennox School program in Marshalltown Iowa and returned home after the training.
Most Tripoli businesses will be closed all day Monday September 1 for the Labor Day holiday. Tripoli Community Schools will not hold classes and will resume Tuesday. The American Savings Bank and the Tripoli post office will also close with no mail service or counter service on Labor Day.
Tripoli area children are invited to a September 6 fun day with a kiddie parade at 1 30 p m and afternoon games for ages 5 12 at South Park The event peaks with circus performances at 6 and 8 p m Tickets 125 for children 175 for adults advance sales benefit the Franzen Bros circus Proceeds from gate tickets go to the Jaycees and local sponsors Also a cookbook deadline for the Tripoli bicentennial project is Sept 2.
An Agricultural Outlook notes machinery demand will remain weak with no return to 1974 levels until late 1976. Sales of tractors and hay balers fell, while 1975 showed declines across forage harvesters and related equipment though self propelled combines held up.
The annual Tripoli Firemen's Dance will be held Friday at the Riviera ballroom in Janesville. Dave Dighton Band will play and admission is 1 dollar, a donation to the Tripoli firemen fund. Mr and Mrs Richard Tracg Steve and Lynn Niemeyer visited Cedar Rapids for Chandler Co open house and Iowa City to see Ron Bergmann at the University Hospital.
Tripoli Community School outlines five ACT test opportunities for 1975 76 with Oct 18 Dec 13 Feb 14 Apr 10 and Jun 12 tests. Registration periods run Aug 18 Sept 22 Oct 20 Nov 17 Dec 15 Jan 19 Feb 16 Mar 15 Apr 12 May 17.
The Frederika flower show hosted by the United Methodist Church on August 20 awarded blue and red ribbons across divisions. Winners include Kerwin Schmudlach, Betty Schmudlach, Ben Davison, Eileen Duckett, Laura Brase, Vicki Converse, Bea Davison, Hazel Burrow, Myrtle Rausch, Minnie Nuss, Cindy Hoffman, Florence Carroll, Mike Bergmann, and many others with a door prize to Betty Mauer.

The BCE Transportation Service run by Hawkeye Valley Area on Aging and Bremer County Council on Aging will serve Frederika residents aged 60 plus needing medical legal banking or recreational rides. Call J. C. Hassman 275 4576 at least one day ahead. Volunteers are unpaid drivers reimbursed 15 cents per mile.
The Iowa Conservation Commission announces rabbit and rail seasons start at sunrise Saturday September 6. Rabbits run 177 days to February 29 1976 with daily bag of 10 and no possession limit. rails run 65 days to November 9 with 25 total daily plus possession. Squirrels woodchucks and coyotes conditions noted.
Funeral services were held Friday at Grace Lutheran Church for Connie Lee Kerkman 19 fatally shot at her Belle Plaine home. Burial followed at Grace Lutheran cemetery. Her husband Ronald is under arrest. Survivors include her husband, parents Warren and Mrs Siggelkov, a sister Susan, and grandparents. She was a 1973 Tripoli High School graduate and married February 1 1975 at Grace Lutheran Church. They had lived in Belle Plaine since marriage.
The Tripoli Leader will close on Monday September 1 for Labor Day but will publish on the usual Wednesday schedule. Advertising copy is due by 5 00 p m Friday with news items accepted until Tuesday noon. Mail service will be unavailable Monday and correspondents must file by 9 00 a m Tuesday.
Forty four players from Tripoli High School vie for varsity spots under veteran coach Gene Perkins in a rebuilding year. The roster includes seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen with key home non conference opener against Sumner September 5 and a schedule featuring Dunkerton, Denver, Fredericksburg, Wapsie Valley and Turkey Valley, with homecoming set for October 3.
The Tripoli Community Board of Education schedules an October 7 election on a proposed 900000 dollar elementary school building with seventeen classrooms and supporting facilities. Public meetings will be held next month to inform taxpayers. exact dates to be announced.
