James R Alexander former superintendent of Wapsie Valley Schools resigns effective July 1 to lead Hampton Community School System. He succeeds Virgil Briggs who retires after 21 years. Hampton enrolls 1700 pupils vs 810 at Wapsie Valley. Alexander began teaching in Oran, then Fairbank, then Fairbank and Grinnell districts before guiding Wapsie Valley. He holds a B A from S C L and a master’s from the State University. a Shell Rock native with four daughters and one son.

Mr and Mrs William Lohmann of Tripoli will mark their 60th wedding anniversary on Monday May 3 with open house at Tripoli Town Hall from 2 to 5 and 7 30 to 9 p m They were married May 3 1905 at St Pauls Lutheran Artesian by Rev Melchert The couple farmed before moving to Tripoli in 1940 They have four children Walter Edwin and Leslie all of Tripoli and Lavern Lucille Hay Plainfield plus 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Harold Wilhelm Kuethe 59 died Friday afternoon. Funeral held at Grace Lutheran with Rev. Ann Thalacker officiating. burial in church cemetery. Funeral Services for Gary Gienau Held Monday
Gary Gienau 14 died Friday at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo from a malignant brain tumor. Services were Monday at Grace Theran Church with Rev Arnold Lacker officiating and burial at Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were Charles Lau Darrell Mixdorf Gayl Klockner Larry Gienau James Towne and Robert Towne. Survivors include seven brothers David Roy Bruce Richard Robert and Glen. Denver Voters to Decide May 4 on 10 Classroom Addition
Denver Community School District voters will decide on a proposed 10 classroom elementary addition at a special election on May 4. Polls open 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm at Denver Town Hall. A 60 percent majority is required to approve a bond not to exceed 127000 plus 40000 from existing funds. The district tax base is about 5500000, and approval would raise approximately 1.4 mills per year. The addition would be built on the west end of the current elementary building.
