Four Tri-State Students Fly Record Kite at College Field
Four students from the Tri-State area designed and flew a giant orange and white kite over a college athletic field. The 12 foot fuselage and 20 foot wing span reached 1,000 feet with a 50 pound kite, built mostly from parachute fabric and bamboo. The flight, watched by hundreds, was limited by FAA rules and required coordination with a plane circling at altitude. The team plans a larger model of 16 by 36 feet with 350 to 400 square feet of area.
