Communist Professionals Dominate New Left Movement
Phillip Luce, former New Left insider, claims a small cadre of communist professionals steered the movement and spurred violent street clashes in Harlem in 1964. He estimates about 5,000 core New Leftists with 5,000 fringes, and notes ongoing penetration of groups like Students for a Democratic Society and SNCC. Luce also says he drafted the 1964 anti Vietnam War declaration and participated in a clash before the House Un-American Activities Committee.
