Republicans in Davenport First ward drew a large crowd as a flag raising on Cedar and Four street corner featured speeches by F. D. Letts A. W. Hamann and W. J. Adams. Hamann, county attorney nominee, addressed local issues while Adams, township clerk candidate, spoke entertainingly until rain and a failed street light disrupted the event.
Barney Leonard died yesterday morning at Mt. Pleasant from pneumonia at age 63 years and 10 months. He lived at 425 East Sixth Street Davenport. Survived only by his wife, who resides in Davenport. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at Anthony's Church at 9 o'clock, with interment at St. Marguerite cemetery.
Mixé Clara McDonald, daughter of John McDonald of Davenport, was injured when a clothesline splinter pierced her right index finger. A splinter about one and a half inches lodged beneath the fingernail and Dr. Starbuck treated the wound.
Mr Coin announces a new bakery at 208 West Second Street Davenport opening Saturday offering top pastry and 41 flavors of ice cream. The shop promises premier dies and party supplies, with a guest goutteau for every visitor and a focus on high quality baked goods.

Washington reports that First Postmaster General Wynne was formally designated by the president to perform the duties of postmaster general pending a cabinet appointment. Oren LeRoy Beaway of Ora, Mississippi, to Miss Emme E. Tira, is noted in the interim notices.

The Diamond Jo steamer bound for Dubuque tied up at Davenport morning at 11 o clock carrying freight and passengers from the steamer St Paul which lay at Dubuque. It will return tomorrow afternoon, then proceed toward St Louis with arrivals and departures around the shipping schedule.
A U S grand jury indicted five individuals in a federal docket. Walter G. Jones of West Liberty faces a whisky license charge. Mary Clary of Washington, Indiana, confronts an alleged funding act through a man. Robert Morrison, Charles Storker and Walter Bloom are accused of sending threatening letters. Peter Musser of Muscatine aided by turning over letters to authorities. post office agents captured the trio and they pleaded guilty, receiving twenty days in county jail. Patterson v. GMW & St. Paul trial underway.
After a month long suspension the Rock Island Plow Co will resume operations with a large force of workers. The plant has been repaired and is in excellent shape for the season. Last Monday several men began work in the punching department.
Cady Curzon's condition shows some improvement as of October 5. Miss Fanny Wright of Waterloth street departed for St. Louis for a week's stay.

Prices move with mixed gains and steady to higher openings across markets in Chicago and Omaha with hogs up to 10 cents and cattle and sheep showing variable strength and weakness.
Chicago reports on Northwestern railway edotas with today and last figures for wheat corn oats and shipments. Prices vary by grade from No 2 red at 1.10 to No 2 white around 3.0 dollars. cash and futures notes include No 4 yellow and various spring and northern grades with regional price ranges.
New York stock quotes close with gains and declines across railroads and industrials. Notable figures include Southern Pacific 55 percent, Atchison 100 percent preferred, Canadian Pacific 132, Reading 183, Pennsylvania 183, Republic Steel preferred 51, Steel 75 percent, Erie 33, Lacle 34, and Hinds Central 149 3/4.
