Letters From Cuba Describe Cuban War Writings and Siege
A Cuban native, son of a wealthy planter naturalized in the United States, recounts Spanish cruelty during the wars in Cuba. He and his father survived the 1878 and later conflicts, aided by U.S. protection, and the letters detail his journey to the United States and service as a surgeon with U.S. forces, plus vivid battlefield scenes and wartime travel notes from 1868 to 1898.
